After years of floundering in development, Sony Pictures is moving forward with Zombieland 2, hiring screenwriter Dave Callaham (Godzilla) to write the screenplay.

Ruben Fleischer, who directed the 2009 original hit Zombieland, is supervising the writing process and he will return to direct, although his deal isn't finalized at this time. No story details have been given, and it isn't immediately clear if the original Zombieland cast, which includes Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, will reprise their roles.

Original Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed in February 2010 that the sequel will be in 3D, but it isn't known if Sony is still planning on going down that route. The writers finished their script in September 2010, but we haven't heard anything about the project since then.

Dave Callaham received a story credit on this year's blockbuster Godzilla, and his other credits include The Expendables, The Expendables 2 and The Expendables 3.
