Zac Efron has joined the cast of Are We Officially Dating?, a new romantic comedy that QED International will be shopping for distribution at the Toronto International Film Festival next week.

The story centers on three Manhattan friends who make a pact to remain single. The plot thickens when each friend falls in love shortly after the vow is made. Zac Efron is the first to sign on, with more casting news to likely follow out of Toronto next week.

Tom Gormican will direct from his own screenplay, which was featured on the 2010 Black List. Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen are producing for Treehouse Pictures, alongside Scott Aversano and Andrew O'Connor. QED will be handling international sales. Here's what QED's Bill Block had to say about the project.

"We strongly believe in the global appeal of this project and we're excited to work with the team at Treehouse Pictures to bring it to market in Toronto. Are We Officially Dating? is an excellent addition to QED's growing sales slate, and underscores our commitment to commercial, filmmaker-driven product."

Production is scheduled to begin this November in New York City.
