Fans of Rose Byrne will be excited to hear that she is returning as Moira MacTaggert in X-Men: Apocalypse. This is the latest casting confirmation following the news that Alexandra Shipp is playing a young Storm, Sophie Turner is young Jean Grey, and Tye Sheridan is set to play young Scott Summers (aka Cyclops).

Writer and producer Simon Kinberg revealed the news to Entertainment Weekly. About the return of Moira MacTaggert, a geneticist and expert in mutant affairs who has appeared in many of the X-Men comics, Simon Kinberg says that the character is an integral part of this particular superhero line-up. He explains:

"She's a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them. It's certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one."

Simon Kinberg says that the script will further development the relationship between Professor Charles Xavier and Moira MacTaggert. He then explained some of what we've heard in the past, about how X-Men: Apocalypse ties up the trilogy started with X-Men: First Class and continued through X-Men: Days of Future Past.

"[Apocalypse] is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters. They're such young actors and young characters, so there's a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie."

What do you think? Are you excited to see more of Moira MacTaggert in X-Men: Apocalypse? or should Rose Byrne stick to doing comedies? More casting announcements should be coming soon, as we await official word that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters are all coming back as expected.
