Walt Disney Pictures has hired Oscar-winning screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed) to adapted the graphic novel Oblivion, which was created by Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski. This news comes from Deadline.

Joseph Kosinski is on board to direct his vision of a future earth that has been polluted to the point of inhabitability. What's left of the human race lives above the clouds, safe from alien scavengers that dwell in the ruins of a once thriving race. The story revolves around a repairman named Jak who finds himself on a life-altering adventure after he discovers a mysterious woman in a crashed pod.

The film does not have a set start date at his time. It is rumored that Disney is waiting to see how well Tron: Legacy does at the box office to decide whether Joseph Kosinski should move ahead with Oblivion or go to work on a Tron: Legacy sequel.
