@ The Fallen:
I have known about the casting for a while, but it's different to actually see the scenes unfolding on the screen. It makes the reality of it all really hit home.

I understand that the movie is supposed to more serious, and I can respect that. My issue is that based on this trailer and what I've heard of this movie elsewhere implies that both the characters' appearances and personalities are drastically different. Plenty of action packed movies have offered glimpses of the humorous elements of the movie (such as "Transformers", if memory serves me right), because doing so shows the potential audience that this isn't just a Super Serious Business movie. Plus, if the film's main focus is supposed to be on action and the war, why wouldn't a clip of Katara fighting be shown - if there are indeed such scenes - since that would attract some interest from the potential female audience.

I understand that not everything in the show can be transferred to the movie - that would make it ten hours long, which is completely unfathomable. I just don't think some of the things the cut out/altered is necessary. Compressing the plot and editing out certain characters is fine and dandy, but changing the characters' race? Changing the Chinese writing to gibberish? Changing the symbols for the elements? Changing the characters' personalities? I mean, when you strip the source material down that much, it might as well be called a spin-off instead of an adaption; it's using the world and the basic concept, but the majority of the details are gone.

I'd like to be able to give it a chance. I miss this series so much I'd love to be able to sit back and enjoy something new from it. But if can't recognize the characters I've grown to love to much, I don't really see a point to it.

I'm not Asian; I'm actually a Canadian of French/Irish descent. I just don't like seeing the beautifully constructed and carefully researched culture of the Avatar world being altered so entirely for "better profit".

Yes, I'm new to the site. I was linked to it by a friend and wanted to share my opinion. Sorry if that offends you.

What? What is this?

So, Aang isn't discovered because of Katara throwing a rage fit, but because she and Sokka walked on some thin ice? D: Plus, throughout the trailer I don't get the sense that her strength and independence has been kept - there isn't even a single clip of her waterbending!

And Iroh. IS that Iroh? o.O It doesn't look anything like him if it is. I mean, he has dreadlocks.

Actually, none of the characters really look like themselves - or seem to be acting like themselves. Sokka and Katara are unrecognizably pale, Katara seems very pale and helpless throughout it, none of Sokka's upbeat nature has beld through at any point, Aang is constantly pouting, Zuko and Iroh are unrecognizably dark . . . I even had to do a double-take of Yue! And she's a pretty distinct looking character in the show.

Interesting to note that now all the heroes are light while all the bad guys are dark (and wearing turbans, according to one clip). "Save a world consumed by darkness"? Hm. I think I detect a hint of subtext. :/

Everything is just . . . This isn't the show I watched and loved for years. No. I will not be watching this movie, and I will be encouraging everyone I know to do the same.
