nurts! I ALMOST went to the El Capitan to see it... the Disney soda shop next door had a really cool-looking table set up for a mad tea party that week.

Does anyone else feel like Burton was almost holding back, and didn't make the film as dark as he could have because of the whole "family movie" factor?
Whoa... Timothy Spall would make a fantastic Penguin.
And I'm quite intrigued by all of these Riddler suggestions... a lot of them definitely seem like interesting but very logical choices.
Has anyone else seen the fan-made poster with Neil Patrick Harris as the Riddler? We haven't seen him do much drama, but he's got the talent and the dedication to do a lot with the role.

Defying Gravity had a really, really slow start, but then it got so good. I'm disappointed it couldn't hold on to more viewers because it could have grown into something - the last episodes were generally better than FlashForward, or what I've seen of it.

Dollhouse was great but we knew it wouldn't last long.

It looks like Better Off Ted is a goner, which is too bad because it's pretty fun. It took me a while to get into it, and the second season is funnier than the first, so I feel like it would just get better.
I love Scarlett Johansson but I think her talent is best suited to the kind of films that aren't usually associated with the biggest stars in Hollywood (although that's changing... but think about it, she was much better in Lost In Translation than she was in The Island or He's Just Not That Into You). I'm kind of hoping it's Kristen Bell, because she's so talented and so bubbly but her level of fame doesn't really match that.
If she wasn't evil before, the film that made her famous was directed by Michael Bay where she had to run around in clothes clearly stolen from Dukes of Hazzard Barbie and get lusted after by Shia LaBeouf. That's enough to make anyone angry.

(But I have to give her props for yelling at the dude who mistook her for Angelina Jolie, because that's the funniest sh*t I've ever read: http://www.cracked.com/funny-243-megan-fox/)
Here's another story for you guys:
My brother used to go away to school but he didn't deactivate his old phone so that he wouldn't have to pay roaming charges when he came home between semesters or on long weekends or whatever, so for most of the school year I was allowed to use it since that was cheaper than deactivating it and reactivating it all the time.
Most of the time his friends knew when he was in town so I wouldn't get confused calls from them when he was out of town (except for one day near the end of a semester when I got a voicemail that said nothing but "Holler at your BOYYYYYY".... no, for real, I swear).
But then one night/morning... and it wasn't even a weekend, I was completely asleep until I heard the phone ringing, which woke me up, but I didn't reach it in time. Still, now that I had woken up, I couldn't get back to sleep, and I was pretty screwed since it was FOUR IN THE MORNING. Who's even awake at 4am on a weekday?
My brother's friend, apparently, who I've known for almost as long as I remember, and apparently usually makes social calls at 4am. He pressed "call" on the wrong number, even though he knew what area code he lives in, and that is not the same area code that my brother was in... A SEVEN HOUR DRIVE AWAY.

So yeah, usually I put my phone on silent.

So far this thread is stimulating!

I enjoyed it, I wasn't necessarily overwhelmed by it but it's definitely a good afternoon at the movies. I thought Amy Adams' performance was good but like many people I didn't always sympathize with her character. I never thought I'd say this, but I really really liked Meryl Streep. I guess playing Julia Child gave her a chance to show a lot of spirit and enthusiasm.

I also thought the parallel narratives were handled really well, and the stories went hand-in-hand. No scene ran too long, and there was a decent balance of food and story. It wasn't just a movie about cooking, nor was the food ignored in favor of smaller aspects of the story that wouldn't have been as important (like seeing more of Julie's job, for instance).

RIP John Hughes, who'll probably be unparallelled for a very very long time.

I also found out today that Blake Snyder passed away, who's written some great books on film, screenwriting, and storytelling, and who had a column on MovieWeb (I don't know how recently it ended since I haven't been back for a while)
Megan Fox could probably work, looks-wise, but um... Wonder Woman still has to, like, be badass and stuff, and how can I say this tactfully? So far the work that I've seen from Megan Fox doesn't completely convince me.

I just got A&E, and came to this thread asking if I should jump into the show, and this only confirms that I should be watching it, but is it highly serial or could I basically turn it on and not be completely lost if I don't know this season's story arc?

I loved the handheld work, thought the cinematography was great, but in some instances being shot on digital didn't really work for the movie (I saw some little lines on actors' faces that I haven't noticed in other films, low light situations that would've looked better on film, and the occasional bit of that classic digital problem, overall green-ness, which I only noticed a bit on the big screen but it did NOT look good in the clip that was shown on Letterman).

Overall, though, the film was good - as good as I expected - and the casting, obviously, was perfect.

Mafia Wars LOVES advertising. All I see whenever I sign into Facebook is banner ads that say things like "Don't you want Nicole to get whacked?" and I'm like, um, haven't seen Nicole in about three years, but no, I would prefer if she DIDN'T get whacked, thanks, is that okay with you?

I tend to take all that "top 5" business a bit too seriously, though.

We should start this thread up again... or if anyone has any good quiz websites (I've found some crappy ones, bleh) feel free to share.
I came SO DAMN CLOSE to naming all 50 states yesterday but didn't quite make it. I always manage to forget the state where one of my favourite TV shows takes place, and this time I forgot a state where my relatives live that I'm planning to visit soon. I felt very dumb.

I wish there were more "Name __________ in 10 minutes" games! How fun would it be if there was one for all the teams in a sports league (I can name like, six NFL teams, so I'd totally rock it) or all the minor characters on Seinfeld or the Simpsons?
