the book is crazy. Only bits and pieces from the book were used for the movie. In the book the soldiers had these crazy mechatech suits they road around in fight the bugs who used spaceships and lazers, they werent mindless like in the book. The book was more of a journal about Rico going through this extensive boot camp and then fighting the bugs briefly before going to officers school. The movie was hilarious though, so cheesy is was good.

K-man while I agree with you, these books were written back in the 1912. These books were the original sci-fi sword and sorcery pulp fiction novels. Burroughs had a fascination with the Red planet and used it as his setting for the John Carter books. Back in the early part of the 1900's no one cared if there was life on mars, it was just a fun setting people could get wrapped up in.
