Hey everyone,
I'm brand new to this site and from Australia and was actually looking on here to find out about the other ending. I watched Buttefly Effect this week on DVD so saw the directors cut and LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVED IT. Anyway, i didn't see the theatrical one but have since found out that he tells Kayleigh to go away in it or something. If anyone could tell me what exactly happens I'd love to hear about it.
Now since I haven't seen it I can't really compare the two but I have to say I am a big fan of the ending I saw. The way I took it was this....
It is only at the end that he finds out that his dad used to use a photo album to transport himself through time and maybe there he realises that his journals are just one means of doing this, and that there are others. So in the end of it all, he realised he had a gift (or a curse) to travel time and all he had to do was focus his power on any memory and be transported back to it. Something his father didn't realise, as he went insane, thinking the only way out was his album. I thought it was so bittersweet that he would do anything, even not exist to save Kayleigh. Also, I think the reason he had blackouts in his life was because he couldnt relive something he had come back to do, as he had done those events later - eg, drawing the picture, pulling out the knife to destroy the blockbuster etc, so he had no blackout in the womb as this was ironically the last thing he would ever do. I sort of had to try to get my head around the fact that the movie is not linear... it doesnt go birth life death, but jumps backwards and forwards in time.
Something else I wondered about is that since there were two other stillbirths before him, where these him again in another alternate universe, or has he had brothers and sisters that have come to the same realisation as he did and ended their life before it started.
I would love to hear your opinions
Cheers
:)
