Great choice on the voice casting for Kilowog!
Robertswww wrote a comment about the news item The Hobbit Will Be Shot at 48 Frames Per Second
I am going to have to side with Peter Jackson on this one. Normal film at 24 fps vs. video at 30 fps is a slight change. The reason film looks so much better is in the lighting. The "film look" is primarily achieved through artistic lighting (color temperatures, ISO/ASA settings, highlights, shadows, diffusers, reflectors, scrims, gobos, etc.).

While motion blur can be a good thing and can always be added and adjusted in the digital realm, Judder is never a desirable effect and the faster frame rate will help eliminate the judder which is even more apparent on today's larger screens.

I think the closer to human sight you can achieve the more realistic a movie will be, and flickering is eliminated in human vision when you approach 60 fps. A 48 fps movie will be much smoother and more realistic in its motion rendering compared to 24 fps, which is considered the minimum for smooth motion.

Furthermore, a 48 fps movie will also be easy to encode at both 48 fps and the commonplace 24 fps. Relieving eye strain during 3D playback is another advantage.

Quote:
"Trumbull discovered that although viewers see smooth motion from film displayed at 24 frames per second (fps), the standard in motion pictures for decades, they are subconsciously still aware of the flicker. This awareness reduces the emotional impact of the film. As the speed of projection ramped up, so did the emotional response, peaking at 72 fps. After that speed, no further improvements were noted."

Cool... Cyber Groundhog Day. Looks Good!

@cupid... What they are talking about, is that the technology shown in the movie is currently science-fiction, but it has the potential to become science-fact in the future. Movies based on science, even theoretical science, add to their believability.
Almost everything Ronald D. Moore is involved in is pure gold. If his past work history is any indication, this new project will be a hit. I like the cast they are putting together. The Battlestar Galactica alumni are terrific, as is Kristin Kreuk. The title sounds like a typical police drama, but with the supernatural elements, this could be a very cool show. I'll definitely be checking out the pilot episode.

It looks like they may have been trying to go for a comic book cover look to these posters. However, the results are mixed... the hexagon background imagery is pretty cool though.

I must say that this trailer looks much better than the earlier CGI adaptation test footage video.

Shouldn't he be playing, Nels Van Adder? They have it listed as Nels Van Atter in the above story.
