I'm just stating my opinion here, but I personally loved the visuals in The Dark Knight much more than Avatar. Batman looking over the city and buildings in The Dark Knight -- breathtaking. The visuals in Avatar were colorful and bright, but I didn't love them as much as The Dark Knight.
I don't understand why Avatar is making so much money. I guess it has to do with the same guy that directed 'Titanic'. Avatar has a nice story, simplistic, but I've seen this kind of story thousands of times before. It's just such a simple story for a 3 hour movie. Beside technically impressive, I just wasn't blown away by the movie. At the end I was like "Oh, that was nice." and that was it... it didn't stay with me for days on end like The Dark Knight did. I don't want to compare the two... both of them are good movies... but I kind of think it does The Dark Knight a disservice to compare it to Avatar like that. In terms of ACTING, especially DEEP, thought-provoking, and relevant themes, and AWESOME music, I thought The Dark Knight was way better.
It's not up to me. I don't care which makes more money... The Dark Knight will always be a favorite of mine, and I highly doubt I will purchase Avatar.
