I'm not quite sure how to feel about this. Iron Man 3 was spectacularly disappointing even with slightly lowered expectations. That's not even mentioning the Mandarin twist. I had trouble embracing the films direction, but little trouble in noticing its flaws while I was watching the film, to say nothing of the drive home. If this is indeed the final solo-salvo for Tony Stark, I just might be in favor of a recast down the line...

Agreed, @addictionnonfatel, but the time for "what if's" is long past.
Fantastic, short and sweet review, @krossroads. I've been looking forward to this experience for some time now, but haven't yet been able to watch it. I've got my fingers crossed that I'll enjoy Wook's American debut as much as you did.

@bawnian-dexeus You were offended? I mean, I don't see how anyone (least of all film guys like you and me) could be offended by that jab when its been confirmed that the opening scenes will be the desolation of Krypton. I doubt any of us will be bored, my friend, and if we aren't likely to be bored, we have nothing to be offended by.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx
The Hunger Games came off to me as an Americanized, watered down, commercial version of Battle Royale, which was a film that was anything but watered down or commercial in its inception (despite becoming one of the highest grossing Japanese films ever). Tarantino himself said that it was the best film he's seen in the past twenty years, and that if he could have made any film since his career started, it would have been Battle Royale. I don't know how much value you put in Tarantino, as I often find his views strange myself, but that's pretty high praise from one of Hollywoods best directors.

Royale was bold and raw, to the point that it was almost not released in Japan and pretty much banned in most other countries, not because of its blood factor but its subject matter. It offered true emotion alongside twisted humor in such a sublime way, complimented by beautifully shot vistas and great continuity in make-up. I don't find that its unabashed violence was something that belonged in anime, like @bawnian-dexeus believes, because it was intentionally meant to jar the audience with its extremity. It may come off as silly if you expected something substantial going in, but if you were like me and saw the film via pirated dvd when it first crossed into America, expecting simple entertainment, you'd have been blown away by the content it held. I went into Hunger Games with low expectations and was still disappointed in the grand scheme of things.

As always I'm not trying to be antagonistic, but when I saw this little conversation, I had to give my two cents on a very influential film in my life that you probably expected more from than was justifiable. To say it's on the same level as The Hunger Games is a joke, though it goes without saying that I'm stating my opinion with as much confidence as you have given yours.

Who is we, @bawnian-dexeus?

@thedude-abides I actually laughed out loud at your amusing but far from objective final comment. While felipe may have come off as slightly antagonistic with his parting shot about patience, your comment was rather unexpected from a man of your... err... patience. The quote that comes to mind is, "We have just lost cabin pressure." But you're done with this thread anyways, so whatever, right?

This looks pretty great. A new reality for Clark Kent to live in, a more grounded approach to Kal-El, all while keeping the same nostalgic and iconic qualities of the most recognizable of characters. Great visuals, sweet score, and some pretty impressive clips make me super excited for this film. I just hope I'm not disappointed, but that's all we can ever do with big projects. The bitching and moaning surrounding this film from day one won't stop and I'm just about done trying to stop it because people will only ever see what they want to see.

Some will say it looks too slow for a Superman film, despite the fact that this trailer alone had more action than all of Superman Returns. Some will say the opposite, and say it won't have a strong narrative, which I'll admit is a possibility. Some will just be tired of seeing an origin story, yet this is the first cinematic reboot of the character, just as Begins was the first cinematic reboot of Batman, and no one complained about that origin story (primarily because Burton's Batman didn't offer much of one). All in all, there are things to pick apart here, when I'm simply seeing it as a comic-book film that decided to try to go above and beyond. Some will see more, some will see less. I believe @mieko-siede summed it up best.

This guy directed 'Red', so there's a chance that this'll be yet another disappointment based off of a graphic novel for me. *le sigh* Hope I'm wrong..
