Tyler_Durden posted in the forum: American Gangster
Saw this movie 2 days after it opened, and it was a very well put together film. The acting, production, and story all had interesting and charismatic moments peppered throughout the films duration. Denzel had his usual power house performance, sparking me to dig into my dvd library to watch some of my other favorites of his. Russel Crowe despite being the focal weak point of the film, did not detract from the movie or hurt the experience of the movie for me. The story is well told, staying very true to the story I recently saw on the History channel on American Gangs and Frank Lucas, which also made it more enjoyable. More interesting to me however, was this film shows that the powerhouse structure (which has been failing lately) can still pull off monster returns. American Gangster has already pulled in 80 plus million NATION wide not world wide, and is not showing signs of slowing soon. With the combination of the cast, production team, and true life story content, this film fires on all cylinders as a strong bio-pic drama. Hurry to the theatres, this one is actualy worth the 10 bucks they'll charge in major areas.
Tyler_Durden posted in the forum: My top ten Comedies.
I didn't read every single page but I didn't see The 40 year old Virgin on any lists so far. If someone did then I'm glad, but if not it should be considered. It single handedly launchd as many careers as Animal House for godsake. Every one involved turned to gold overnight.

Funniest movies seen that were made in the last 10 years...(no rank)
The 40 Year old Virgin
Wedding Crashers
Superbad
Knocked up
This has been done before, but I thought I would bring it back to see what people have seen these days. This is what you love the most for quality and entertainment, not neccessarily whats considered THE BEST.

My Current 10 is

Pulp Fiction
Raiders of the Lost Arc
Fight Club
Back to the Future
The Usual Suspects
The Shawshank Redemption
North by Northwest
City of God
The 40 yr. Old Virgin
A clockwork Orange
Saw 8 1/2 early this week, it was awsume.
Also saw The Vanishing, that ending was f*cked up.

Saw Pans Labarinth a few weeks ago.
Like others i thought it was visualy great, but it majorly lacked a central plot or ending act.

Anyone have reccomendations?

Mine are:

Fight Club
Equilibrium
Amelie
Evil Dead 2
Lucky number slevin
Shaun of the Dead
Donnie Darko
Requiem for a Dream
(Note:This is not Top ten best ever, this is your opinion.)It's been asked before, but I wanted to see where people were at with this one.
I went by a few guidelines to make this, such as one per Director, and I tried to incorporate a few genres and important decades.Mine as of a month ago is...

1. Pulp Fiction-The stand out of the nineties is Tarantinos Pulp Fiction. Told in a non-linear fashion(Later to be imitated often), the stories of two hit men, a washed up boxer, and a mob boss interweive until they each reach their dramatic conclusions. An all star cast with clever writing, and brilliant Direction solidifies this piece of cinema art among the top of all time.

2.Raiders of the Lost Arc-Amazing movie. One of the reasons I like movies. Harrison Ford is absolutely classic as Indiana Jones. This movie has it all, action, adventure, clever one liners, and an original concept. This will remain a classic until the death of film.

3.Fight Club-Ed Norton and Brad Pitt headline this multi level adrenaline rush complete with amazing Direction, great layers of story and character alike, and a completely original concept of story telling. Be sure to see this one more than once for the full effect.

4.Back to the Future-One of the best adventures film has ever taken me on. This movie has tons of comedy, great situations, and a solid cast. This movie also has possibly the most quotable lines of any movie I have ever seen. One of my favorites for sure.

5.The Usual Suspects-By far one of the most captivating movies I have ever seen thanks largely to the narraration of Kevin Spacey. This story of crime and deception is first rate, top notch, whatever you want to call it. The ending is one of my favorites of all time.

6.The Shawshank Redemption-What I like to call the most complete movie of all time. Forget the Godfather, this is Cinemas true masterpiece. Everything is first rate, the acting by Robbins, the Direction, the sceenplay, the voiceover, the visuals, the quality of story, and much more.If you have not seen this movie yet, I'm jealous of you.

7.North By Northwest-What could I say that hasn't been said about this spy thriller comedy classic? Cary Grant is absolutely brilliant in one of my favorite acting performances ever. With Grant on the screen, and Hitch- at the lense....sit back and relax, you are in good hands.

8.City of God-The two things that caught my eye here, is the quality of story/story telling, and the visuals. This film has some of the best visuals/cinematography that I have ever seen. The scene at the beach is undescribable.

9.The 40 Year old Virgin-One of the two monster comedies of 2005(Other:Wedding Crashers). This comedy is dramatically fresh, clever, and full of a hilarious cast that all give career performances. One of the best two comedies of the last decade. You know how I know you're gay?.....lmao

10.A Clockwork Orange-A very off-beat film, however rightfully so. This tale of Alex and his hooligan friends terrorizing their home town is an abosolute masterpiece of horror and intrigue. My favorite Kubrik hands down, mostly due to the unconventional ending.

HM:Out of Sight-What most would call an average film, I like to call a personal favorite of mine. Everything seems to work in this crime-drama-comedy(Even Jennifer Lopez). This flick is stylishly Directed, has great filters/visuals and a complete screenplay that entertains constantly. This movie really is Out Of Sight.
Tyler_Durden posted in the forum: Favourite shootouts.
I second the Standoff in Reservoir Dogs.
Also not sure if this counts as a shootout, but the end of A history of Violence was bad-ass..
It's thirty minutes away, I'll be there in ten.

The Wolf is an obvious choice.
If you are a fan of Stars,Writers,Directors,Producers or anything along those lines, what do you think was your favorites best and worst effort in their career.

Some of mine are:

Harrison Ford: Best:Raiders of the Lost Arc
Worst:Hollywood Homicide

Steven Soderbergh: Best: Out of Sight
Worst:Oceans 12

Michael Bay: Best: The Island
Worst: Pearl Harbor

Robert DeNiro: Best:Taxi Driver
Worst:Rocky and Bowinkle

Steven Soderbergh(Out of sight,Traffic)
David Fincher(Fight Club Se7en,The Game)
Alfred Hitchc*ck(North by Northwest,Vertigo,Notorious,The Birds,Psycho)

Wow that was an intelligent post.
The first movie could have been a 15 minute short with all the same information.
Or they could have added 15 minutes to the two towers and explained it in a flashback or something. When I woke up in the theatre, I was not the only one sleeping.
Tyler_Durden posted in the forum: Movie Recommendations?
Hook up Apacalypto.
Tyler_Durden posted in the forum: 2001 Academy Awards
I like both films, but Donnie Darko has more layers of story, more subtle touches, and a deeper meaning than A Beautiful Mind, even tho I really like it and own it also.

And there is no way LOTR FOTR was the best film of 2001, no way in hell.
Return of the King is a completely different story..
But the first LOTR was so damn boring and not necessary.

Best film of 2001 may not be my favorite of the year: Amores Perros

But it sure as hell isn't LOTR.
I never got to see that one in the theatre. MUst have been sik
Tough call, but I would have to say Jackass 2.

You may ask how? or why?

It's not a great film, but I had the most fun in this theatre experience. The audience was going absolutely nuts.

Best Quality: The Departed
