Well, okay then. After reading all these interviews, I have to say that 1) I'm disappointed that the movie isn't going to follow the book except in very broad "good vs. evil" sort of ways. I can only hope that it's good (or bad) enough to inspire kids to read the books. 2) I actually have more faith in the movie--as a good movie, not as a good representation of the book--because none of these people have read the books. It would seem that there isn't any half-hearted attempt to be faithful, but a complete spin-off of the original.

Again, all I can suggest is "Arthurian Legend." Cutting out the Viking scene...okay, burning a boat might cost too much. Especially in Romania. I dunno. 13 vs. 11, in the scheme of things, not the most important element. But lose the Arthurian aspects and you lose the soul of the series. Special effects can't replace that.

*Spoiler Alert*
If you haven't read the book, don't read this comment. No, really. Obviously, the interviewer hasn't read the book either. The man's Merlin, for cryin' out loud. "Less of a wizard," indeed! I sincerely hope that Walden ties up the fact that this is built on Arthurian legend. If not, then this is a one-off film and a big disappointment to this fan of Cooper's opus. |
