Who is your favorite horror director?
I have a few favorites right now. I really enjoy the genius that is David
Cronenberg. This guy could make a film about killer toasters and it would be
fucking great. He has an eye for originality that is like none other. I also
enjoy a good Eli Roth film from time to time. I think this young guy brings fun
back to horror films. If you watch an Eli film you are bound to see gorgeous
women, laugh your ass off and without a doubt see an awesomely gory death. With
that being said, my number one favorite is Alexandre Aja, who is responsible for
High Tension and The Hills Have Eyes. Aja just brings that old school, raw and
in your face type of horror that I truly love.
List some of your all time favorite horror films.
I guess I will define “favorite” by films that I have seen multiple times. Here
we go: JAWS, The Shining, The Changeling, The Ring, A Nightmare on Elm Street,
Ravenous, Friday the 13th Part 2, Phantasm, The Devil’s Rejects, Cabin Fever,
High Tension and Last House on the Left. Those are the first ten or so that come
to mind.
What is your favorite ongoing horror series?
Growing up as an eighties child my favorite series was A Nightmare on Elm
Street, with Halloween a close second but, now that I've grown up and matured
into an unhealthy young adult, I immensely enjoy the Friday the 13th films. I
guess because it's exactly what it is. The other two series I mentioned actually
attempted at a storyline. However, Friday the 13th doesn't have time for that. I
enjoy watching the campers stroll onto the Crystal Lake Camp Ground, seeing
Jason rise from the dead, kill everyone except one fleeing girl who, ultimately,
manages to get the best of him. I will venture to the theaters for every Friday
the 13th film they make. I don't care if they make “Jason Vs. The Mutants of
Mars.
What is the first horror film you remember seeing as a child?
I remember watching the Creature Double Features on the USA network on Saturday night. I don't remember any of the film titles because I was so young, but I do
remember one key scene: a small group of people had camped out in a basement
overnight to hide from killer tarantulas and when they emerge, they find the
entire city has been covered with cobwebs. Like I said, I don't remember the
name of the film, but that's the first horror movie I remember. If anyone knows
the title of the film, shoot me an email. I would love to see it again.
What are some of the scariest films you have ever seen?
The Changeling, Exorcist, Amityville Remake, Pulse (original version), Tale of
Two Sisters.
If you could be slain by any horror icon who or what would it be and why?
This is a really easy question for me. Remember in JAWS when the shark bites the
boat in half and chews up Quint? That's how I would want to go. I love the idea
of sliding down that bloody deck right into the mouth of a HUGE great white
shark. It's like an amusement park ride. Well, sort of...
Which murder weapon makes your skin crawl and why?
There is something about an ax that makes me very uncomfortable and I truly
believe I know the origin of this fear. Can you guess? It's The Shining of
course. I can remember being ten years old and seeing the twins chopped up in
the hallway. That pretty much did me in for life. So yeah, the ax, without
question.
