I saw it by myself at the Los Angeles Film Festival. I hated it. I suppose if you're into drama keyed around smart people doing incredibly stupid things that end up getting them killed when Alex Garland, the psycho dimwit of a screenwriter (who must have been told he was writing "Hostel III: Big Spacey Deathtime"), isn't chucking arbitrary boobytraps and serial killers at them, it's quite good. To the rest of us-- those of us who hold down regular jobs and, consequently, understand something about the importance of competence in the workplace (a concept Garland and his shipload of idjits wouldn't comprehend in a million years)-- it's quite, quite dumb. Regarding Cillian Murphy: he's not really a creep. He's actually quite a sweetie. But here he's got his "Spock" cranked all the way to eleven, and, yeah, it's pretty icky. Two Siegels: one for the score, which was likely written for a much better film, and one for Chris Evans' character Mace, for having the only ounce of common sense in the whole damn film.
