actually you are all wrong..

did you know that the wizard of oz was a populist movie speaking out against the government at the time? its true, no joke.

this is what each character represents

dorothy- she has the mark of goodness, which has been placed on her head by the good witch of the north to serve as protection throughout her travels. Dorothy represents everyman. She is one of us, level headed, human and she has a real problem- she also thinks about others. The silver slippers (ruby slittpers in the film to add color) belong to dorothy alone- silver's potent charm, which had come to mean so much to so many in the midwest, could not be entrusted as a political symbol.

tin woodman- put under a spell by the wicked witch of the east. Once an independent and hard working human being, he finds that everytime he wings his axe it chopped off another part of his body. In oz, tinsmiths can repair such things. Soon the woodsmith is all tin. In this way eastern witchcraft dehumanized a imple laborer so that the faster and better he worked the more quickly he became a machine. But tin rusts in the rain. The tinman's position parallels the condition for many eastern workers, after the depression of 1893. He feels he cant love only a heart will make him sensitive again.

scarecrow- has a sense of inferiority and doubt, needs brains to replace the straw in his head. Kansas farmers had been accused by some of ignorance, irrationality and general muddle headeness. The scarecrow soon emerges as very shrewd and quite capable.

the lion- coward, he desires courage. He represents William jennings Bryan. Bryan lost the support of eastern labor. the lion struck the tin woodman with his sharp claws, but to his surprise he could not make an impression on the tin (the tin woodsman was on the ground). Baum here refers to the fact that 1896 workers were often pressured into voting for McKinley and gold by their employers. The king of beasts is not after all very cowardly and bryan although a pacifist and an anti-imperialist is a time of national expansion is not either.
the wizard of oz- the national capitol and government0 is a bumbling old man, hiding behind a facade of papaer mache and noise. He might represent any president from grant to mckinley. He symbolizes the american criterion for leadership he is able to everything to everybody. he takes on a different view toward national leadership as each character approaches him.

to dorothy he appears as an enormous head, an apt image for a naive and innocent little citizen.
to the scarecrow he appears a lovely, gossamer fairy, a most appropriate form for an idealistic kansas famer.
to the woodman he appears as a horrible beast as would any exploited eastern laborer after the trouble of the 1890s.
to the lion he appears as a ball of fire, so fierce and glowing he could scarcely bear to gaze apon it. when the lion tries to go near, he singes his whiskers and creeps back.

the witches- good witches are from the north and the south- and they arent quite as powerful as the wicked witches of the east and west. the wicked with of the west uses natural forces to achieve her ends. she is baum's version of sentient and malign nature. she sends vicious wolves, crows, a swarm of black bees and finally flying monkeys. the WWW cowers with fear when she wees the silver shoes, she recognizes their powerful charm.

the flying monkeys are an oz substitute for the plains indians. their leader says once "we were a free people living happily in a great forest, flying from tree to tree eating nuts and fruit and doing just as we pleased without calling anybody master." this was many years before oz came out of the clouds to rule over this land.

the group- represents coxey's army marching to ask cleveland for work in 1894.

this is part of my critique of the book, so it applys more to the book then it does to the movie.

if you need more evidence i will post the other 11 pages of my theory proving that the movie is a populist anti-government film.

the worst ever was when david letterman hosted.

what the hell?

does this have anything to do with an upcoming movie?
e_norton_fan67 posted in the forum: The Da Vinci Code
i just hate when a movie gets made about a great book and it kind of tarnishes the imagination you had about what the characters looked like, and what the scenery was in your mind.
The commentary starts up right away and doesn't end until the credits are almost done rolling.

um... thats how they all are...

?

maybe you meant something else

:?:
e_norton_fan67 posted in the forum: The Da Vinci Code
i agree

if it gets made ill probably see it, but im afraid it will partially ruin the book for me. although a lot of the facts in the book dont add up, it is a great read and it will be a very very tall task for ron howard to do anything like the book.

Thats sad that you have to talk to yourself Crack_White/Papa Giorgio?

Why do you need two usernames?

haha thats what i was thinking too.

and anyone who puts finding neverland above hotel rwanda or eternal sunshine of a spotless mind deserves to choke on a HUGE pretzel. 8O

Eternal Sunshine was a huge oscar snub.

Million dollar baby was good, but not as good as its being hyped to be.

Clint Eastwood does not deserve the nomination.

The Aviator was overrated.

The 2 best movies of the year were Hotel Rwanda and Eternal Sunshine.

Neither are getting enough credit, both should have gotten best picture noms.
