Thank you, Movieweb, for FINALLY acknowledging this as a prequel and not a remake! I can't wait for this! I adore the 80's movie! :)

@insertusernamehere That's most likely one of the major problems.

@insertusernamehere It IS a prequel. I have been trying to get my friends to acknowledge it as such, but even with me pointing out obvious things that happen that lead up to the 80's version, no one seems to believe me! :(

And as for the special effects, Tom Woodruff Jr. and Alec Gillis are in charge of the FX and state they are using a large amount of practical effects to maintain the feel of the original whenever possible. There will be CGI, but not that much. THAT made me happy. Those two rock with their animatronic stuff! :)

@brady1138 I can understand that. I have always been a huge fan of Carpenter's version, and can tell what is different between this new one and his. I am recognizing the Norwegian camp (primarily where they are storing the block of ice) as a non-burned out duplicate to Carpenter's. I just want these movie sites to stop posting that it's a remake, thus confusing people who may not be as familiar with the original as others. :)

NOT A REMAKE!!! They find the alien ship, they find the alien, they take it back to their camp (in the SAME block of ice that is found empty in the original), they set it free and the events leading up to the John Carpenter version transpire! What is so hard to understand about this?! Look at the set in the new one that the ice is placed in when they drilling into it; exact same set that Carpenter had as the Norwegian camp in his movie. The director even went on about how meticulous he was about getting imagery and set designs that were seen in the original correct, so you would think "Oh! That's what happened!". I, for one, am really looking forward to this PREQUEL. :)

This ISN'T a remake! It's the story of what happened at the Norwegian camp prior to the events of the original.
