This will be my final post on this subject, so I figure I should make the last of my points. Based on my observations of posts both on Movieweb and RZ' Halloween Myspace, some of us did not see the same movie. The people on myspace are all posting how great this movie is. One even went as far as saying RZ's version was better then the original and that RZ's version should be the new original and John Carpenter's version should never be played again. Give me a **** break and stop filling up RZ's ego. Over the past 10 years, Hollywood continues to take classic versions of horror movies and turn them into cash cows because of hype. It's been reported that they are considering remaking Friday the 13th, JC's "The Thing", Nightmare on Elm Street, Prom Night among others. I think with recent flops as "The Fog" and the Texas Chainsaw remake, we can see that Hollywood doesn't care about what the fans want but the almighty dollar. RZ's version undoubtly is going to be liked by more of the early 20 somethings, because it focuses on gore, violence and sexual content. The original had one nudity scene, little to no blood and yet it worked, even though it too had flaws. I don't expect someone to watch the original and be scared, not when today's movies are more violent then ever and RZ proved that. I watched the original yesterday and I still love the mastery of JC and how "The Shape" was portrayed, whereas when I watched RZ' version I still can't figure out why he felt the need to make Michael be the victim and his sister was his redemption from his pain and suffering. Regardless of my thoughts, you will be the judge on how remakes get received. I am one person who did not like the remake or in most cases any remake, but as long was people keeping giving their money they will keep making the movies and we will keep posting our thoughts in both agreement and disagreement. As I continue to think about the movie, I want to know why he used all these actors from his prior movies and for what purpose. Their scenes where minimal and could have been filled by little known actors. Did he think this would help the movie? While Sherri Moon Zombie was okay in the movie, I really think he trys to keep the money in the family and could have brought in a better actress. Did he need to put the Strode mother and father in the movie and kill them off, maybe he could have taken that time and built more of the storyline. The Dr. Loomis character was bland at best and could have been better casted. As I have said in a recent post, RZ did not go out to scare us, instead he tried to shock us. I think if you look at the scene where little Mike kills the bully, it was shock. Can anyone remember a scene in the movie where you where scared or where you didn't see it coming. RZ tried to make a horror movie for this generation, but in my opinion did not work. Look at House of 1000 corpses, he tried to make a horror movie and it had it's moments of horror. In Devil's Rejects, his characters went from a horror concept to a shock concept (no mention of Dr. Satan). I think from a shock director his ideas work, but only when it's an original idea. He tried to take a classic and make it his own, but he lost sight of what made the original a classic. I really believe a 1 1/2 prequel would have worked, even if the mask was not seen. If this is the end of the series as we know it, then this was a bad way to end it.

When images and previews came out for this movie, I thought he would do the series proud, especially since I have seen the original when it first came out as well as seen the entire series more times then I can count. Yes, it is his vision, but his vision neglected what made the original work. Yes the original had flaws, but he could have done a whole movie as a prequal, but instead he took bits and pieces of the original and changed them. The original movie was based on a killer hunting babysitters, but was changed. In the original, it had a storyline where you cared about Laurie, Annie and Lynda. If you never saw the original, you really don't care whether they lived or died in RZ's version. He chopped the original & Halloween 2 and put pieces he thought made sense, but lost grasp of what made the original a classic. The Shape in the original was emotionless, where RZ's version was treated more like a victim. He made Michael come from a white trash family instead of the blue collar in the original. And based on my observations, Michael became what he was because he was abused mentally and somehow went from being a little pudgy child to this enormous muscle bound killer. He failed to give us an understanding of how he knew this was his sister, how he found her and why he was stalking her..was he going to kill her or was he looking for love from his sister? I really think he dropped the ball but then again, who really cares. The movie made money based on hype and I agree with most of the forums and reviews, your either going to love it or hate it, there will be no gray area. I will stick with the original!

As a huge Halloween fan who has seen the original in the theatres when it was first releashed and has now seen the re-make. I will say RZ did nothing to improve the series. First off, the movie was not scary, but more shock value. He uses the F-bomb and sexual overtones way too much. The re-make version of the movie was choppy in terms of you really didn't care for the characters such as Laurie, Linda or Annie. The theatre was packed last night and many where laughing or making jokes during and after the movie, so I am not the only one. I had an opportunity to watch the movie being made and thought RZ would do it justice from the filming I saw as well as the previews, but in the end it had no substance and had to many visual flaws. But in the end, to each his own
