“Cloverfield reminds me of the haunted house attractions I would go to as a kid. You essentially get strapped into a rickety old metal cart with a fraying seatbelt that has you feeling less than safe and sound. It's pitch black and all you can hear are the horrible moans of whatever is lingering in the dark. Cold mist splashes your face, and suddenly the ride picks up speed. It's now you realize you have no control over your fate - you're riding the rails at breakneck speed, and all you can do is hold on.”

From producer J. J. Abrams, creator of TV series such as "Felicity," "Alias," and the perplexing hit "Lost" comes "Cloverfield," a super-secretive thrill ride with enough turbulence to leave you in a weeklong daze. Abrams and writer Drew Goddard ("Lost") have taken the b-grade monster movie genre an...

“"30 Days of Night" is a respectable adaptation of a chilling graphic novel. If you're not too grossed out by excessive blood and gore, then grab a ticket and enjoy a great horror flick perfect for the season. This is one vampire movie that doesn't suck.”

Those F**kin' Vampires Are at it Again! The only thing warm in Barrow, Alaska is blood - and luckily for a gang of thirsty trench-coat wearing vampires, there's enough to go around. In "30 Days of Night," the new horror-on-ice flick from director David Slade ("Hard Candy"), a small Alaskan town is...

“It's probably the most breathtaking thing I've ever seen. If this movie doesn't pick up a handful of Oscars, there is no justice in this world.”

After he graduated from college, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandoned his possessions, gave his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness. McCandless is the main character in the best-selling non-fiction book by Jon Krakauer, In...

“"The Brave One" is dry and uninteresting, and while there are some good moments peppered throughout, overall this film is lacking in almost every department.”

"The Brave One" might be brave, but it isn't anything new Jodie Foster's brand of vigilante justice falls flat By Adam Frazier (Sept. 17) It is my opinion that Jodie Foster is one of our strongest and most talented American actresses. Foster is consistently convincing in a wide range of roles and ...

“If you're ready to sit back and enjoy an over-the-top popcorn flick, then go check out "Shoot 'Em Up." Sure it's unbelievable and overall senseless and without meaning but hey, it's a fond farewell to a summer that was nothing but senseless and effects-laden films anyway - so why not say goodbye in style?”

Within the first five minutes of this deliriously over-the-top action flick an innocent bystander known only as Smith (that hardened rogue Clive Owen) kills a man with a carrot (yes, the vegetable) and aids a complete stranger in childbirth, all while firing a pistol and spouting off one-liners to w...

“Full of tension and grit and pure awe - this is a stupendous "must-see" picture. I encourage everyone to give this film a look. I guarantee you'll never look at westerns the same.”

Director James Mangold ("Walk The Line") brings us a remake of the 1957 Glen Ford classic, "3:10 to Yuma," which tells the story of Arizona rancher Dan Evans (Christian Bale), who is struggling to support his ranch and keep his family's respect in the midst of a sorrowful drought. Desperately needi...

“If you're a fan of slasher films, then by all means give Halloween a look. It's big, loud and clumsy but it's a lot of fun too. It'll make you cringe and look away from the screen, and afterall - isn't that what you want out of a horror movie?”

Halloween: Trick or Treat? Rob Zombie's new spin on a horror classic hits theaters By Adam Frazier (Sept. 3) In 1978 John Carpenter ("The Thing") introduced the world to Michael Myers and the 'slasher film' with "Halloween," starring Jamie Lee Curtis as one of horror's first scream queens. The h...
