@shuabert It was identical to Flickchart's setup so they had to remove it to try to help their case in the coming lawsuit. Sorry for the inconvenience.

@xssiv As somebody who has been on Flickchart since their invitation-only beta testing period, and as someone who has worked as a contributor on the site, I can safely say that you could not be further from the truth. I can't speak for the MovieWeb aspect. This website could possibly think of new and better ways to make use of the movie ranking functionality (although considering the lack of imagination MW showed in putting up an app that, for all intents and purposes, is identical to Flickchart, I have my doubts). But the guys at Flickchart have made many changes and improvements to the site, it's tweaked and improved upon as per user feedback. New features have been added, films are added every day (well over 12,000+ and counting).
It's not that Flickchart can't handle the competition. Competition is part of business and capitalism in general. McDonald's doesn't cry when a new fast-food place opens across the street. But when that new fast-food place is call McRonald's and sells Big Macs, Filet-o-Fishes and Happy Meals that taste like sh*t, well, they might have something to say about that. |

@hellraiser I guess you think it's clever to act like I agree with you when really we're on opposite sides of the issue. Makes it seem like there's even more sheep taking Movieweb's side. That doesn't bother me though, just gives me an excuse to post my comment again, and get the truth out:
It's hard to believe how much of a blatant rip-off this is of Flickchart's site. It's not just that Movieweb took the basic concept - that sort of thing happens all the time. But there is nothing - NOTHING - different about Movieweb's setup from Flickchart's. Everything is in the same place on a Face-Off page as it is on Flickchart's. Each uses a top 20 list on the left-side of the screen which features all the same options. The voting screen is the exact same with the two-poster setup and the three buttons below it. When you add a movie on Face-Off, you are told the exact same information as flickchart (where it is on your chart, global rank, win %, total times ranked, % that have seen the film). Once you've added a film to your chart, this site gives you practically the same box as Flickchart does, complete with the Twitter, Facebook and Rank More Movies buttons. Comment setups are done the same way. It's really almost unbelievable. If this was released on April 1st, I would have thought this was a clever parody, an April Fools Joke of sorts, a tip of the hat to Flickchart. But it's not of course, it's a note-for-note knockoff. Now, it's not that there's no place for competition. If Movieweb had developed their own ranking game, and changed at least something substantial about it, even if it was just the basic webpage layout, I don't think there'd be such an issue. But if you're going to change absolutely nothing about the site, you might as well do it better, and Movieweb fails there too. Flickchart has many more films to rank as well as filters to refine your personal ranking process. So, this is a nice idea in concept, but it was never yours to begin with. And before you resort to "What? Flickchart invented the concept of ranking or comparing things?", no, of course they didn't invent the whole concept. But they did create something new with their website that hadn't been done before, and you guys just stood on the shoulders of their work and are trying to claim it as your own. Pretty pathetic. |
