Happy belated birthday MetalMan713. Everybody should have fun on their birthday so I'm glad you did.
(Great Superbowl Pick too)

Many Thanks!!!
500 is not a lot. You can probably find some consumer digicams for around that price that shoot in 16x9, but nothing in the professional or prosumer ranges go below a couple thousand.

I agree with this as well.
it's a terrible idea. You're going to be up to your eyeballs in film stock and processing costs. If you make a 10 minute movie with lets say a 5:1 shooting ratio, it will probably cost you around six thousand dollars and thats just processing fees and stock costs. Shoot on digital, or better yet HD.

Agreed!

Just got home from watching Cloverfield - you get to see the monster (or monsters??) - those who suffer from motion sickness don't need to see it . . . good flick!

Acquire the rights from James Condra to make the film - if Mr. Condra has passed away, you will have to acquire the rights from either his family or publisher

Pay Mr. Condra (or a different screenwriter) to write a script treatment

Locate an agent and sell him on the notion of representing you, as well as, lobbing the project to various studios (this can be a big deal)

Begin having the book turned into a script

Begin taking meetings with studio heads

Locate an investor for funds since it will take some time to get your project off the ground and into theaters - even if there are no major glitchs with The Valley, you are looking at 1 to 2 years in completing the film (from concept to production to theaters to DVD) - though once the studios invest in your project, any money they give you will be included in your budget

Be aware that Hollywood studios may option making the film - but it may be delayed due to the Writer's Strike currently going on - not to mention the Director's Guild and Actor's Guild about to re-sign as their contracts come up this summer . . .

Write back with updates

Do you have a different link?
How many short films have you made so far?
1. In addition to watching films - watch life. Unless you do a remake of an established film - most of your ideas will include adventures or stories you will acquire along your journey.
2. Begin to acquire like-minded persons as you pursue your dream - having people who want to make films will keep your internal fuel going during any bumps or bruises that may come your way.
3. Whether in film school or a film production job - learn as much as you can in the field areas you are interested in - that will help you finetune your future film choice.
4. While in film school - locate business courses that may help you in the future - contracts, budgeting, etc. - be technical and creative
5. Open to the fact you may have to move (from where you live to a new environment) in order to acheive your dream
6. More rehearsal means less takes when it comes time to shoot your projects
7. Create an atmosphere where the actors feel comfortable to give you the performance you are asking them for
8. On the set - the director is in charge - any dissension should be dealt with in a quiet, firm manner - taking ownership is not dictatorship
9. You may not want the writer on set - it could cause slight chaos - speak with the writer offset for any changes (unless you are the writer)
10. Speak kindly to everyone as much as you can
