Beginning as a cult hit on FOX in 1993, The X-Files has grown to become a worldwide phenomenon, winning three Golden Globe Awards for Best Dramatic Series and Golden Globe Awards for David Duchovny for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series and Gillian Anderson for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Drama Series.

Garnering dozens of Emmy Award nominations since its inception, the show chronicles Agents Mulder and Scully's investigations into the FBI's unsolved cases -- called "X-files" -- whose only solution involves paranormal or unexplained phenomena. Mulder, whose belief in the paranormal was fueled by the alien abduction of his sister when he was 12 years old, was partnered with Scully, a medical doctor, so that she could debunk his outlandish theories. Instead, the two formed a close bond that has endured and created a formidable alliance.
