Season 7: Episode 2

Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois (Erica Durance) discover Kara's (Laura Vandervoort) spaceship but before they can open it, Kara appears and knocks Lois out.

Clark is shocked after Kara tells him she is there to protect baby Kal-El. Despite Kara's appearance, a despondent Clark decides that without Lana (Kristin Kreuk) there is nothing keeping him in Smallville, and heads to the Fortress of Solitude to begin his training as a superhero.

However, Jor-El tells him Kara's father -- Zor-El, who is Jor-El's brother -- is evil and Kara is dangerous, therefore Clark must stay in Smallville to find out why she came to Earth. Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) makes a stunning discovery regarding Lana and Project 33.1.

The episode starts with Lois and Clark examining the wreckage from the dam where Kara’s ship was. Lois gets laid out by a Kara who doesn’t want people touching her stuff.

Clark and Kara briefly fight before Kara flies away. She looks at a picture of baby Kal-El from space – clearly what she is looking for.

Clark finds Kara while she’s questioning some kids. She once again tries to fly off, but this time he catches her and slams her to the ground. It comes out that Kara is here looking for Kal-El. Clark takes Kara back to the farm, where they get to catch up.

It seems Kara had left Krypton at the same time that Clark did, but her ship landed in the dam where she was in stasis for eighteen years. Hence the little boy she expected to find is now a few years older than her. Kara also wasn’t expecting to find that Krypton exploded – this clearly bothers her. For Clark’s part, he’s surprised Jor-El never mentioned her. It seems that Jor-El and Zor-El weren’t close. It’s also important that Kara find her ship – if anyone else tries to open the ship, it’ll explode with the force of a nuke. Which means that, of course, we cut to a group of scientists trying to open the ship.

With Chloe’s help, Clark and Kara realize that the ship has been opened and is transmitting an alarm. Clark teaches Kara how to use her super-hearing, and they track the ship down. They get there at the same time that Lois does, but she conveniently gets knocked out by touching the ship. Kara manages to contain the self-destruct sequence so that all of Kansas isn’t destroyed, but the ship is still gone.

Clark and Kara have a heart to heart about everything. Understandably, Kara is upset. She’s lost everything, and unlike Clark, she knows what she’s lost. Clark offers to let her stay on the farm, which Kara accepts. But then she mentions the fact that her ship had a crystal containing her knowledge and directives – presumably like the one that built the Fortress for Clark. Which was left behind when her ship exploded, and is now in the hands of the Department of Domestic Security.

And speaking of the Fortress, Clark heads there to ask Jor-El about Kara. Jor-El is predictably vague, but warns Clark that Kara is not to be trusted.

Meanwhile, Chloe and Lois are dealing with the fact that the new editor of the Daily Planet has offered Lois a job if she can prove her story about the ship. He was once a fan of Chloe’s work, but since she left high school, he thinks she has lost her fire. He ultimately ends up hiring Lois, and taunts Chloe that Lois’ passion might re-ignite Chloe’s own.

The Luthors are no less busy. Lex is released for jail and immediately takes up the search for Lana. Using voice recognition software, he tracks her to China. Lana is waiting for him with a present - a gun which she plans to kill him with. It turns out that Lex had a clone of Lana, and Lana used that clone to fake her death. Lex is willing to be shot, but to no one’s surprise, Lana is unable to do it. Lex apologizes, and tells Lana that if she wants to return to Smallville, she’ll be safe there. Finally, we see Lex back in his home office, drawing a picture of his “angel” – also known as Kara. He instructs his men to find her as we fade to black. [Edit]
