A quarter of a century ago, an animated series from Japan found it's way on Saturday morning airwaves across America. The result? Furthering the popularity of Anime in North America. Though the show is exceptionally dated, it still rings as one of the most epic sci-fi TV series of all time, with enough romantic angst and triangles to give soap operas a run for their money. Watching the series reminds you of boys playing with action figures, where everything's destroyed and everyone's dead in the end. This show isn't that extreme, but it is enjoyable, non-episodic, and logistically creative. While the English dub comes across as cheesy at times, and you swear that you're going to pull out your hair if Minmay sings one-more-time, the relentless action, twists, and robotic combat will keep you hooked and watching. Check out this show if you enjoy dogfights in space and engaging space operas.
I currently own this series on DVD, but you'll be fine if you just stick with The Macross Saga. After that, you're not missing much.
