The Moomins (1979): Review By George Oldale

The Moomins is an anime series based on the Swedish comics created by Tove Jansson. This brought back memories of my past as it was one of my favorite cartoons while growing up. Me and my friends at Primary School used to LOVE it so much, we bused to pretend we're them. Happy times at Primary School.

The TV series tells the tale of a family of three hippo-like trolls who live in Moominvalley. The family consists of the father Moominpappa, the mother Moominmamma, and the son Moomintroll. The son, Moomintroll, likes to go outside and play with his friends. I must say that he has got unusual friends. There is Sniff the immature overgrown mouse, Snufkin the travelling boy in green, Little My the feisty little girl, Snork Maiden the Snork troll who is Moomintroll's love interest, and her inventor brother Snork.

The Moomins is a lovable TV series that a child would adore and watch everyday. The character of the TV series has got to be Snufkin as he's kind and a bit mysterious. Also, if you watched it as a child, you might of said that you wanted to live there as it looks like a dream come true. Well, sort of...

But seriously, the character who I feel sorry for The Groke. This character is a purple blob-like monster who stalks the residents because she wants friendship and warmth. Everything she touches, it dies sadly, everything she slithers on, it freezes. But really, I would be afraid of her but I won't try to KILL her! Seriously Moomins, just be friends.

The Moomins is a fun and extraordinary TV series. I must honestly say that this was my Number 1 Cartoon Of The Year. Tove Jansson, your creations rock!
