‘Transformers 4’ Kicks Off New Trilogy!

Producer Don Murphy insists that the franchise will not be "rebooted" but will continue with the same robots.

Producer Don Murphy says Transformers will start a new trilogy with the same robots
Despite the massive box office success of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which has taken in over $400 million worldwide since opening last Wednesday, there are still doubts about the future of this franchise. Both director Michael Bay and star Shia LaBeouf have stated that Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be their last movie in the series, which has lead many to speculate that Paramount will simply reboot the whole thing.

Producer Don Murphy had a different take on the future of the Transformers, indicating they will start a new trilogy with the same robots. Here's what he had to say below.

"What happens next? Certainly not a reboot. We haven't lost the Transformers. They didn't grow up or become expensive like Tobey Maguire. I don't know what happens next. I'm pretty sure there will be a second trilogy. I am pretty sure it will kick ass. And I am pretty sure some of you will hate it because it wasn't all bots."

Paramount Pictures has not announced plans for a follow-up to Transformers: Dark of the Moon yet, but with robust box office figures still pouring in, you can bet the studio has something up their sleeve for more robots in disguise.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon was released June 29th, 2011 and stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Julie White, Kevin Dunn, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Alan Tudyk, John Malkovich. The film is directed by Michael Bay.

In the 80's cartoon story lines the autobots were the working class of cybertron, the decepticons were the military (before they were called autobots and decepticons) Also Optiums Prime was not always Optimus Prime he was first Orion Pax (worker) Megatron destroyed him Alpha Trion took Orion Pax destroyed body and made Optiums Prime. That would be a great story line for Transformers 4.

@Dabiel Denis if you have followed the Transformers since the 80's like I have mostly the animated first Transformers Movie. You would know there is Decepticons and Autobots scattered through the universe other than Cybertron. If there will be a Transformers 4 a story line will be possible.

i dont think people would care about the story or script as far as Transformers 4 is concerned.....The franchise became a huge success because of its huge CGI quotients and immense battle....I think any plot with Autobots, humans and ofcourse the antibots whether its decepticons or dinobots can do the trick i guess....

Let me say a story line.....Humans incorporating with the autobots technologies finally invents spaceships.......and they land on another planet where they find all sorts of machines there.....They were machines too but were inferior to autobots as far as technologies are concerned....Decepticons from another planet lands and it becomes a battle for survival for the natives.....The humans passes on the autobots technologies to the native robots thus giving them the much needed updation for fighting their chances...The rest is up to u....

The new Scream had potential to be good, but we all know how that went down the drain lol. And this Franchise needs a Reboot, with more of the plot focused on the Transformers then the humans.

@Luke-Wheeler too bad Optimus Prime already died in TF2 but i guess that doesnt count since it was so convoluted you probably already forgot that happened.

I havn't seen Titan A.E. but i also loved Iron Giant.

It'd be pretty sick if someone like JJ Abrams would take over (i know im dreaming.. leave me alone), but there's no way that happens. If they go for a second trilogy, I would see it working with completely different bots (NO PRIME, NO BEE). Theeeeen in Transformers 6 we get Prime and the rest of the bots back for a final battle.

@skywise: I love the Transformers franchise, but I really want to see Unicron. Ever since Transformers 3 was announced I thought he would be in it. But sadly that wasn't the case. Hopefully he'll have his debut in another installment because that would be awesome!

Personally, I love Transformers, and I don't feel that Steven Spielberg or Michael Bay could
ever make a bad one. Yes the idea of Unicron would be epic, but that would mean that Optimus would die. I know he kind of has to, but he just can't! He's too insane!

Transformers 3 rocked my world, and I would say that it is the best film ever made. I mean, it's even better than TITAN A.E. and IRON GIANT, which are really, really great movies.

They have to make more Transformer movies, but continue it. DON'T REBOOT, WHATEVER HAPPENS!!! Just keep going, becuase I am a TRANSFORMERS NEEK AND I AM PROUD!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can easily compare them with the fact that the protagonists in each movie had great odds to over come. See what I'm getting at? I'm certainly not saying Transformers was better than any of those movies but I can certainly compare them in that light. Also, in T2 and T3, they were way out numbered.

Okay, what's the point of having sequel after sequel when the Autobots are always coming out on top at the end of every movie?

Nobody is hating. I'm stating the obvious that were to many loopholes. I certainly wasn't expecting an Oscar out of these movies. All Michael Bay is good for is explosions and his story telling is garbage.

The first movie had the same amount of autobots and decepticons on both sides. In which the last two had all these decepticons and they barely had any screen time to even build off from. For instance Soundwave and Shockwave. How can you compare these movies Die-Hard, The Professional, and Desperado to Transformers?

Summer 2014 ? , that's only 3 years from now ! That's not too long from now. If it were any longer from now then that, until was going to come out then that would be too long of a wait.

@spongebob-boxofficepants Cameron, Spielberg and Jackson have their hands full and they're not coming back to pick up what a mediocre director started (I mean I like half of Michael Bay's movies, but lets face it, he's no genius).

I liked this trilogy (except for TF2 of course), it was fun and all but it should end now. A reboot in few years would be ok though. I actually liked the fact that there were humans in this film instead of just all robots on Cybertron, it just gives me a great sense of scale and immersion seeing a guy standing next to a huge robot, it just works.

Although they'll probably make a 4th one anyway, it was a box office smash, just like Pirates 4 (which you can count on a 5th one).

@sean think about this: 2012 Comic-Con, they announce a 'New Transformers trilogy'. They won't pre-production until summer f 2013, meaning it won't be finished until the end of september. So that means if possible, a 4th Transformers film might not come out until 2014.

I'm sorry but complaining about the autobots being outnumbered is utterly dumb. What action movie had the protagonist on the same level as the baddies? Die-Hard, The Professional, Desperado, the list goes on. Part of the story line is to have the the good guys in a struggle. It makes the victory even sweeter when they over come the odds. There are plenty of things to criticize Transformers but that's not one of them.

As for these movie I enjoyed them, especially the 3rd. These movies certainly aren't perfect but they are fun to watch and they entertain the hell out of me which is exactly what I wanted but honestly I hope they at least 50/50 action and characters in the new series.

You never really see the auto-bots have an internal struggle . It's always the phsyical and never once did their they waver in their love for man-kind. A perfect element where you can turn their internal struggle into physical or even tying in the auto-bots biggest fear, was to have them confronted with a situation to kill a human. There is SO MUCH they could have done with the auto-bot characters.

Don't get me wrong there are 2 types of characters, characters that have fun personalities, with odd nuances and wacky behavior. Or to put it simply they are physical characters. Then you have characters that have that internal struggle where you see them grow and change even the slightest bit. But what you really want to have is the two together. They are great alone but together they are amazing...kinda like one the major themes in Transformers =P.

@ds177 Hell ya that is what i have been waiting for more than anythying in the TF world...the announcment that Unicron will be making his grand appearence. And if you have Unicron you gotta have Hot Rod and Cup and all those bots that took the big boy on.

    I) am willling to give another trilogy a chance. Reluctantly however.
