Kiefer Sutherland first spoke about the epic scope of director Paul W.S. Anderson's production.

"It's been a long time since I did a movie this big in scope. There are amazing computer effects, but only a third of the set was green screen. The rest was huge props, big sets, elaborate costumes, which I love."

While the film has been drawing comparisons to 300, the actor revealed that they are completely different projects.

"I loved that movie, but this isn't a fantastically stylized film. This is a look at a real society. They had plumbing, running water, culture. Pompeii was at the forefront of modern civilization."

The actual volcanic eruption in 79 A.D. essentially wiped out the whole city of Pompeii, claiming over 16,000 lives. Despite the historical setting, Kiefer Sutherland said he believes the movie is relevant to today's audiences.

"Pompeii is unbelievably relevant. I've seen more natural disasters in the last five years than I have in my entire life. (The film) isn't a history lesson, but it raises real issues that I think are worth discussing. It could happen again."

Pompeii was released February 21st, 2014 and stars Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Emily Browning, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jessica Lucas, Jared Harris, Joe Pingue, Kiefer Sutherland. The film is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.

I sure hope that Paul realized that he's been off on his films for the past number of years. I liked it when he was an artist when he did Event Horizon.

I think this will be a good roman epic since Ridley Scott's Gladiator. Lets see what happens next.
