Chronicle director Josh Trank has inked a deal with Warner Bros. to direct the upcoming graphic novel adaptation of The Red Star.

The Soviet-themed sci-fi fantasy comic book takes place in an alternate USSR where futuristic technology co-mingles with magical elements. The main character is a Red Fleet soldier who goes up against an ex-leader with an iron fist.

Jason Rothenberg is adapting the screenplay from the comic series created by Christian Gossett. Neal H. Moritz is producing.

The director's first film Chronicle has grossed $116 million worldwide with only a $16 million dollar budget. He is also in talks to develop the Fantastic Four remake for Fox and a Spider-Man spinoff featuring Venom for Sony Pictures.
