Total Recall director Len Wiseman is finalizing a deal to direct The Mummy reboot for Universal Pictures. We first reported on this project back in April, when Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts signed on to provide the screenplay.

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are producing through their K/O Paper Products, along with Sean Daniel and James Jacks. Here's what Len Wiseman had to say about the project, revealing there is a much scarier take on the classic monster.

"When I first heard Universal was relaunching this, that is the image that popped into my head, the period tale, the old monster, but when Bob and Alex pitched it, there was a great new take and approach, and a very different mummy as well. It's a darker twist on the material, a scarier version."

Len Wiseman previously worked with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman when he directed the pilot episode of their CBS series Hawaii Five-0.

The Mummy was released May 7th, 1999 and stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Kevin J. O'Connor, Oded Fehr, Jonathan Hyde, Erick Avari. The film is directed by Stephen Sommers.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Would you say that about the Underworld movies, that they are mediocre as well?

@themoviefanatic -- Because she's not a good actress, and she always stars in mediocre movies?

@mcleve02 Oh, i see. Maybe they could cast her in it. I could possibly imagine seeing her starring in this movie.

@mcleve02 Actors tend to be having more fun than focusing on the gold

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx I would be very sad if she did... I wish with her talent that she would sign onto an Oscar winning film for once so she can get some gold... I just wish they would maybe make a horror film out of a mummy instead of this remake... especially since we haven't had a mummy film like that in ages!

@mcleve02 -- If they do, she's signing the death note, and making it official; this movie will suck.

@dan1 I got you on this one...

@themoviefanatic No he was being jokeful and playful because they use her a lot... That doesn't mean that they won't...

@incmob@dan1 So you both think that Kate Beckinsale would be in this movie, because of the Total Recall remake that her and director Len Wiseman were involved in before?

so a remake of a remake - eyes roll
instead of remaking it, just set it in our time with another adventurer

@themoviefanatic Well darker doesn't always mean better... The story is the most important factor and I just wish they would come up with their own
