Warner Bros. has acquired the screen rights to author Rick Yancey's young adult novel series The Monstrumologist.

Jessica Postigo (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) has been hired to write the screenplay adaptation, which follows Dr. Pellinore Warthrop, a doctor who studios creatures and monsters, and Will Henry, Warthorop's assistant who is also under his care as an orphan. The story is set in 1888, which begins with a deadly species known as an anthropuphagi, a man-eating creature without a head, being delivered to Warthorp's home.

The Monstrumologist kicked off the novel series in 2009, followed by 2010's The Curse of the Wendigo, 2011's The Isle of Blood and last year's The Final Descent.

Ellen Goldsmith-Vein is producing for Gotham Group, alongside State Street's Robert Teitel, with Eric Robinson and George Tillman Jr. serving as executive producers. No production schedule was given.
