Kelly Marcel has been hired to re-write Joe Wright's upcoming adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

Based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairytale, the film chronicles the journey of a young mermaid princess that abandons her life under the sea for a prince above sea level. Joe Wright is directing the project with Working Title's Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner producing.

Kelly Marcel is best known for writing the big screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey and Saving Mr. Banks. No production schedule has been released.

    Of course, she is the obvious choice... Are you F***ING KIDDING ME! I'm not saying people can't have perspectives of different fields, but clearly this should have hired a writer who is an expert in that field.
