‘The Avengers’ Has Thanos as a Second Villain?

A new rumor indicates the Mad Titan will be another baddie alongside Loki in this Marvel ensemble adventure.

The Avengers is currently shooting in New Mexico, and it has been understood ever since Thor hit theaters earlier this month, that Tom Hiddleston's Loki will be the main villain in The Avengers. A new rumor is swirling that The Avengers will feature a second villain, Thanos.

Earlier this month, Marvel unveiled some photos from Odin's vault in Thor, and one of the items on display is the Infinity Gauntlet, which Thanos wears. Here's a description of the Thanos character below.

"Debuting in the Bronze Age of comic books, the character has featured in over three decades of Marvel continuity and a self-titled series. The character's name is a derivation of Thanatos, the personification of death and mortality in Greek mythology. One of his more prominent storylines to date-the Infinity Gauntlet series-portrayed him as a mad cosmic tyrant bent on slaying half of all sentiences existing then in Marvel's multiverse in order to appease the Marvel Universe's actual (and more powerful) embodied personification of Death in an attempt to win its love."

It isn't known how large a part Thanos, who is also known as the "Mad Titan," will have in The Avengers, or who will be playing him. Nothing has been confirmed by Marvel Studios regarding Thanos at this time.

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

@bawnian-dexeus hmm... a year ahead of time is hardly point blank, but I get what your saying. Still, going with the joke is always better than going against it.

@ejk1 Not hate, more like, we get that in your experience with these characters, the outcome isn't hard for you to decipher at point blank. By all means, carry on. We enjoy your "prophetic skills"

"I also think Thanos may stay in the shadows until the end of the movie and make a cameo at the end that sets up the sequel."

Wow, whoever said that was spot on with his assessment. Oh, it was me? Well, then, carry on...

@ejk1 I agree i believe in the Avenegers sequal Thanos will acquire the IF OR CC if he gets the Infinity Gauntlets he will be too powerful for the Avenegers and will hopefully result in cosmic beings present ( Galactus and Eternity and all the others) as i assume that Fantastic Four will be remade by then with a Silver surfer reference or sum i dont know

As I have been saying for months: Cosmic Cube + Infinity Gauntlet = Thanos. People need to remember that Loki is not a fighter by nature--he's a manipulative bastard, setting things up to his liking. He can easily direct Thanos, lovesick over Death, towards an object like the CC or IG and tell The Mad Titan that it will get her to fall in love with him, while at the same time plotting to take said object for himself to use at a later date. I also think Thanos may stay in the shadows until the end of the movie and make a cameo at the end that sets up the sequel.

I really can't see them trying to put Thanos into this movie and expect it not to become seriously convoluted. What could work, though, is to have the end-credits teaser (assuming there is one, as there has been in all the other Marvel Universe films) hint at Thanos for a sequel.

This has been speculated for a while, but when it was revealed Loki would be the villain the Avengers, I figured the rumors were laid to rest. I haven't seen Thor yet, but perhaps they're setting him up as a villain for later films, but I don't see there being both Loki AND Thanos in one movie.

I say save Thanos for the second Avengers movie when the team is already established. Thanos is too powerful.

All i know is they better not make him some kinda space cloud. Thanos needs to be f*cking EPIC and just bad ass as anything you've seen on screen. With that said, I doubt they'll do Thanos justice. But the fingers are crossed.

cooool. he's not going to be the main villain. that will be loki since it is, in fact, loki, who creates the avengers. so the story will focus more on him. thats what the after credits scene in THOR was all about.
