Syfy Passes on ‘Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome’

The network plans to air the 90-minute pilot at a later date, and reveals plans to continue the ‘Battlestar Galactica’ prequel as a digital series.

Earlier today, the Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome trailer was released, which gave some fans hope we would eventually see this series come to fruition. However, Syfy has decided to not order Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome as a TV series, but plans to develop it as a digital web series. Take a look at the trailer which was released today, along with the statement from Syfy president Mark Stern

"Though the vision for "Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome" has evolved over the course of the past year, our enthusiasm for this ambitious project has not waned. We are actively pursuing it as was originally intended: a groundbreaking digital series that will launch to audiences beyond the scope of a television screen. The 90-minute pilot movie will air on Syfy in its entirety at a future date."

Syfy ordered the Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome pilot back in October 2010, although the pilot was not completed until last November. Luke Pasqualino stars as a young William Adama in the pilot, which takes place during the 10th year of the Cylon War.

I don't understand how anyone could not like BSG.
    It was awesome.
The story, apart from season 2, was great, the special effects were incredible and acting superb.
Blood and Chrome should be made as well.
I just ordered 2 copies of it.
    Make the show syfy channel!

You guys are a bunch of stupid monkeys, the trailer was amazing! I think if they made it, it would be a big hit. Caprica was way too lame and not enough Cylons, plotting, killing and blowing sh*t up.

Since the last episode of BSG it has been going down hill. Though I did enjoy Caprica. I really was hoping for another TV series.

@ghostman -- I figured. Those Sci-Fi shows (seem to) feature such melodramatic dialogue and scenarios. It actually becomes funny after a while rather than dramatic. Regardless, I'm going to try to get into that show.

@ghostman -- Funny. I was about to give it a two-star rating, too. But it pissed me off on how unoriginal the trailer winded up being, so for that reason alone, I gave it 1.5/5. Otherwise, I would've happily gave it a 2/5.

@dan1 I've seen a few episodes of the last two seasons but I didn't find it too dramatic like you said. It's more melodramatic and I couldn't take it too seriously; just not a huge BSG fan that's all :/

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx I was annoyed with it too. Almost gave it a two star rating for that, so i muted the video.

@felipe-11 -- My point exactly! They blatantly copied the exact tone and soundtrack from that trailer, and that annoys me to no end. The most unoriginal trailer I have ever seen, period.

@ghostman -- Am I the only one that is extremely annoyed at how such a terrible looking would-be series plagiarized "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" trailer?

@PRPUVPRYN6WuUW Did you watch BSG (the 2004 series)?! Prob the most dramatic show Syfy ever put out. Drama it had in abundance. Highly disagree. Unless they totally went with a new tone, which would be lame. But LOL @ the idea of BSG not being dramatic or serious enough....

Damn....what shame :/ Look liked it had some potential too. Why don't they just film the season episodes and release them direct to DVD? Or, we can have this a weekly SyFy online TV series?

@dan1 I can't see this show on AMC it's not too serious or dramatic enough for them.

I haven't seen BSG yet (but I will), but this looks totally awesome, too bad it got canned already.

@renodc This was definitely influenced by Terra Nova's cancelation. This looks incredibly expensive and after Terra Nova I doubt anyone will try their hand at expensive sci-fi for a long time. Even though this definitely seems aimed at the hardcore sci-fi fans and Terra Nova was aimed at a general audience.

Btw, whats up with making the trailer an EXACT replica of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo teaser? It's not even an homage, it's plain unoriginal.

for someone being a fan of science fiction and not having seen the newer battlestar galactica show would any of you recomend it because the people i know who watched it all gave me very difering opinions and it just sounded like it was a very chaotic and obscure plot.

what a shame, looks really good... i think if they air the pilot as a stand alone, if the ratings are there and demand is high, they may just change their minds... not likely but would be nice.

@dan@brian I wonder if the poor performance of Terra Nova on Fox had any bearing on their decision to back off this?

This looks so good. I hate it isn't going to get a TV series, but I can understand the hesitance to put money into it with the general public not really gravitating to science fiction or anything that requires much imagination. I also think the underwhelming ending to SyFy's first Battlestar series and the incredibly slow moving Caprica series really cooled a lot of interest in SyFy's vision for Battlestar.

They should give the series to AMC. AMC would handle it just fine. They're becoming a powerhouse network.

'Syfy' (I still hate that) is retarded. Because Caprica didn't do as well as they hoped and they cancelled it without giving it more of a chance to develop into something, they aren't as confident with Blood and Chrome. Shoot themselves in the foot, then take it out on their fans. Sounds familiar to the Stargate Universe fiasco. F*ckers.

What a bummer. Syfy just doesn't wanna commit to the budget... even though Battlestar is the biggest thing they've ever done. Get with it Syfy!
