Avengers: Age of Ultron star Jeremy Renner has signed on to join Amy Adams in Paramount's sci-fi drama Story of Your Life. The project is based on the Hugo and Nebula-winning short story of the same name by Ted Chiang. Story of Your Life will actually serve as a reunion for both Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams, who both starred in the 2013 Best Picture nominee American Hustle.

Eric Heisserer (The Thing, Hours) wrote the adapted screenplay, which centers on alien spacecrafts that have landed all over the world. Amy Adams plays an expert linguist who has been recruited by the U.S. government to try and communicate with the aliens, to see if they come in peace or if they are a threat to mankind. As she begins to find out why the aliens are here, she experiences intense flashbacks that offer clues to what these creatures truly want. Jeremy Renner is playing a physics professor who is paired up with the linguist by the government to help her communicate with the aliens.

Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) is directing, with FilmNation's Glen Basner, Lava Bear Films' David Linde and 21 Laps' Shawn Levy and Dan Levine producing. Paramount picked up the distribution rights for this project at last year's Cannes Film Festival for a reported $20 million. Jeremy Renner will next be seen in two high-profile action sequels this summer, Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1 and Mission: Impossible 5 on July 31. He will also shoot Captain America: Civil War this spring, before shooting Story of Your Life in mid-June.
