When Star Wars: Episode VII hits theaters next December, it will be the first in a string of movies including the immediate sequels Star Wars: Episode VIII and Star Wars: Episode IX arriving in 2017 and 2019 and three spin-offs. There have been several rumors about which characters the spin-offs will be focused on, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Today, a new unconfirmed report from MakingStarWars.net reporting that Disney and LucasFilm are currently developing an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off.

"Obi-Wan Kenobi - I've heard from quite a few people now that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in the works. For the spin-off movies they were initially going to stay away from any Jedi or Sith characters. But I'm hearing now that because of the popularity of Obi-Wan (fans recently voting for him on the official website etc) that an art team is now working with a writer on concepts for an Obi-Wan movie."

The "official website" voting that was mentioned by the unnamed source is a This Is Madness Tournament, where Obi-Wan Kenobi was voted as the most popular Star Wars character, beating out others such as Darth Vader, Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Of course, if this report does turn out to be true, it isn't clear how far along the project is in development. Ewan McGregor played Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and there was also a rumor that surfaced last August which revealed the actor may be popping up in Star Wars: Episode VII as a "Force Ghost." The character will also be featured in the Disney XD animated series Star Wars Rebels, which is set between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, following the formation of the nascent Rebel Alliance.
