Star Wars Celebration is coming to an end in Anaheim, California today, but before the convention winds down, fans got the first plot details for the first spinoff movie Rogue One. The plot was confirmed as centering on a group who go on a mission to steal plans for the Death Star. Here's what the official Star Wars Twitter page revealed earlier today.

"A band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans in Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One."

There had been rumors of the Rogue One plot revolving around the Death Star for quite some time, but this is the first time the plot had actually been confirmed. It was also confirmed that Felicity Jones is playing a Rebel soldier, and the plot takes place before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. The news was revealed at the panel by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm VP of development Kiri Hart and spinoff director Gareth Edwards.

The director also revealed that pre-production is currently under way in the U.K., but it isn't known when production may begin. Here's what Kathleen Kennedy, had to say about the idea behind these spinoffs.

"The idea behind these movies that Star Wars -- as much as it's a series of events and characters that we have come to know -- is a place. We wanted freedom to do some films that would stand on their own, tell their own stories, and vary in scale and genre."

Gareth Edwards added that Jedi's won't be present in the movie.

"It's about the fact that God's not coming to save us. The absence of the Jedi hangs over the movie."

Fans who attended the panel were also shown a brief teaser trailer, which you can check out below. You can also take a look at the official logo and concept art from Rogue One below.
