Lucasfilm wants Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron for Star Wars: Episode VII
As believed to be true, Disney and Lucasfilm are saving their big Star Wars: Episode VII casting announcements for the D23 Expo, which happens August 9-11 in Anaheim, California, home of Disneyland, instead of having revealed the information at Comic-Con this past week.

Production is expected to start in early 2014 for a 2015 release date, with live-action shooting scheduled to happen in the UK at Pinewood Studios on a film that will take place after the events seen in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. While no story details have been revealed at this time, a source close to the production has leaked some new, interesting information about two characters that will be in the movie, and who is being sought to play them.

This news comes from Latino Review, who previously reported that Leonardo DiCaprio had come in for a meeting but bailed to do the Robotech movie instead.

Now, they are reporting that past Disney alumni Ryan Gosling (The Mickey Mouse Club) and Zac Efron (High School Musical) are both wanted for Star Wars: Episode VII in two of the lead roles. It is not known whom they will be playing, but its being stated as fact that one of the actors has already taken a meeting with Lucasfilm and Disney.

The speculation is that Ryan Gosling is being sought to play Luke Skywalker's kid, while Zac Efron will play Han Solo's kid. The film is rumored to be taking place exactly 30 years after Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.

    @undeadslayer4 - Maybe that's a good thing. I can name a bunch of performances from actors who i doubted would do a good job in the beginning.

    I would like to see Efron in this but a hell no to Gosling.While I love Ryan Gosling as an actor, he would seem out of place to me in the film. Plus he doesn't strike me as the big budget Hollywood movie actor. I have like Efron since the first High School Musical. He has a great screen presence to him that people overlook just because he was in those movies. Watch his movies like The Paper boy, At Any Price, Me and Orson Welles, Charlie St. Cloud (sh*tty movie but solid performance), and even 17 Again (his performance made this film enjoyable). He's actually a good actor who can be great In my opinion, if he is given the right script and right film. People sh*t on him all the time for HSM but hey, you gotta start somewhere. He's been pretty smart trying to movie away from that image and I think that this would be a perfect move in the right direction for him.

    I can understand why they want these two however it would be better off without them. I don't plan on watching Ryan's films any time soon nor for the fact of Zack.
    I'm sure this will be a better star wars film however I just don't want them in it.

    @diaigma To be honest when I read the articles I was more interested in the Leo news as well. It makes sense that he would pick that movie since h is good friend Toby Maguire is producing. I think that Leo would make a perfect Roy Fokker.

    I would rather have Efron than Gosling tbh. Both good actors but Gosling doesn't come off as a franchise actor

    I love how people just jump on the Disney hate bandwagon when this probbably isn't even true. From my experience, Latino review doesn't publish the most accurate stories ever (in fact, they're not even close at times).

    Lol, @narrator. Probably just The Notebook. Those who actually watch movies know Gosling's one of the top-5 in the business when it comes to picking quality material. Any aspersions to the contrary are just plain ludicrous.

    @diaigma Lololol.

    Also, am I the only one amused by the trolls and avatar-less users coming out of the woodwork who still consider Gosling to be "sh*tty" with absolutely no facts to support these claims. I mean, have they seen his track record or are they only familiar with him from the Notebook? @thedude-abides
