William Shatner, who originated the role of Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek TV series, may finally get a chance to star in the rebooted theatrical franchise. A new report from Badass Digest claims that director Roberto Orci's script for Star Trek 3 includes a scene featuring both William Shatner's Captain Kirk and Leonard Nimoy's Spock.

No details were given about the scene, but if William Shatner signs on and Leonard Nimoy returns, it will be the first time they have shared the screen in the Star Trek canon since 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Fans may recall there was a cameo role originally written for William Shatner in 2009's Star Trek, but it ended up being cut from the film. There wasn't a role written for him in last year's Star Trek Into Darkness. That lead to William Shatner's famous comments last year, where he called J.J. Abrams a "franchise pig," after he signed on to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, and saying it's "foolhardy" the filmmaker hasn't cast him in either franchise yet.

It isn't clear if William Shatner has been offered the role yet, since shooting won't begin for another six months. Are you excited to see William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy reunite on the big screen in Star Trek 3? Chime in with your thoughts below.
