‘Spider-Man’ Reboot Eyeing Emma Roberts and Teresa Palmer for Gwen Stacy?

Marc Webb’s film will feature Stacy as Peter Parker’s love interest instead of Mary Jane Watson.

Emma Roberts could play Gwen Stacy in Untitled Spider-Man reboot
Emma Roberts could play Gwen Stacy in Untitled Spider-Man reboot
With Andrew Garfield already set to play Peter Parker in Marc Webb's Untitled Spider-Man Reboot, the casting has now shifted to the female lead character, Gwen Stacy. Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Emma Roberts, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots, Ophelia Lovibond, Lily Collins and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are a few of the actresses vying for the role.

The site reports that the actresses have been meeting with both director Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield and that the new film will feature Gwen Stacy, who was portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard in Spider-Man 3, as Peter Parker's love interest instead of Mary Jane Watson. However, it was said that the script pages these actresses have received did not indicate what character they were reading for. So they could either be trying out for Gwen Stacy or an unspecified new character.

It was also stated that the actresses have not undergone screen tests, only that they were taking meetings and early readings for the role. Columbia representatives wouldn't comment on the story and it was also said that another round of meetings could happen this weekend. And that other actresses that they didn't name are in contention for the role as well.

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further updates on the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot as soon as we have more information.

The Amazing Spider-Man was released July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Campbell Scott. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

It's that reason among others why I don't mind a reboot of SM, @Phillip Wilcox - and since this will focus on Peter and Gwen, his REAL first love, that makes it anticipation worthy.

I don't know, am I wrong for feeling like i'm getting tired of Spider Man now?? I mean It's like someone cooking food that is delicious for the first time and new and fresh (the first Spider Man), and then someone repeatedly reheating the sh*t out of that food 4 times lol. How can someone serve up the same food and make it good again so people will welcome back with open arms?? I mean the whole plot point between Peter Parker and Mary Jane was left as a bit of a bummer, i mean didn't Peter back hand or slap Mary in Spider Man 3?? lol Dude what the hell haha. And they just left it at that if memory serves me, so, I don't know. They kinda lost me at that point in the movie. Not that i was huge die hard fan of the comic books enough to bitch about how different it was to the movie, cuz frankly i didn't care that much about that (sorry to the enormously die hard fans of the Spider Man comics). But movie wise, yeah, when his hand make contact with her face (accident or not) i was kinda put off with the direction the whole plot took.

@ejk & @ Diaigma - Nice outlines. Cant really argue with either of them. I agree also with @insert: Goblin, Venom, and Lizard need background stories. The rest can be tossed into a movie and work. Ala TDK.

@ejk1 - yeah, my initial outlines tend to be huge. I've yet to finish a first draft that's less than 100K words. Pathetic, I know, but it gives me room to cut stuff later. I don't think these outlines would make 3.5 hour long movies. 2.5 maybe, which is fine for me. Thanks :)

Good point, @(Insert) - I don't think anyone would care about the lesser liked villains having no origin story. Basically, a super hero film can get away with two villains if only one of them has a development story, and the other is already there without any background given. What killed Spider-Man 3? Two villain origins and a third that was developed over the first 2.

The Joker didn't need a backstory, and Two-Face's origin was built up through-out the entire film. Villains like Goblin, Venom, and Lizard need that backstory.

Interesting choices for the lead female role.

Ok I know its a reboot but for all the villain's why do we have to be back story's, why not take a leaf from "The Dark Knight" and just have them show up and cause destruction and have spiderman try and stop them saves screen time from more action

@Diaigma, I love what you wrote, but there's just one problem: Each movie would be like three and a half hours long, lol. After Spider-Man 3 I don't think anyone wants Sandman, and to be honest the thought of two or three villains per movie may bloat the movie. I agree that the first movie should not be an origin movie, since we already had that less than ten years ago. And if they make Harry the Hobgoblin, I think CBF may go crazy. Many people don't like Kraven, but it's okay- I was just throwing names out there. I am also angry that Marvel decided to not make any more Spectacular Spider-Man episodes, and for that matter, Wolverine and the X-Men. both were good, and deserved to continue. I was really looking forward to the Age of Apocalypse storyline in season 2 on Wolverine.

    Essay time.

Nice outline, @ejk1, but I'm not sure if I would like it played out that way. I'm sure you have a more detailed outline in your head, but for me, that doesn't quite cut it. I do agree with Gwen's death at #3, though. Anyone here remember The Spectacular Spider-Man series? (of course Disney canceled it after its second season, shortly after they bought Marvel. Grr) - that series played off the Ultimate storyline a bit, just as these new movies will. Here's what I'd like to see.

1: Defeat second tier villain (Shocker). No background needed. Start it this way. Right into the action! Introduce social/hero life, friends/May, start working at the daily bugle. Lizard origins. Blind date to school dance with MJ. Teen angst with Liz Allen, Flash, other jocks, etc. Peter defeats Lizard. Parker has mixed feelings about love life. Spidey origins littered throughout.

2: Defeat second tier villain (Vulture - who has a grudge on Osborn for "stealing" tech) with intro/help from Black Cat. Peter struggles balancing Peter and Spidey. He has reliability issues with friends. Aunt May is in financial trouble. Harry dates Gwen. MJ dates Brock. Goblin emerges and takes on the criminal underworld of New York. Harry is framed to be Goblin (it's actually Norman). Gwen and Peter decide they like each other. Gwen thinks to dump Harry. Defeat Goblin. Assumed dead. Harry blames Spidey for it. Gwen stays with Harry out of pity.

3: Defeat second tier villains (Rhino and Sandman). Gwen breaks up with brooding Harry. Goes to Peter. Harry feels betrayed. Wants revenge on Spidey. Gets Octavius to help, accident, Doc Ock emerges. Harry badly hurt. Goblin returns. Gets Ock to help him find Spidey's identity. Ock and Spidey fight. Octavius loses. Goes to therapy. Goblin learns identity, kills Gwen. Peter takes vengeance on Goblin. Kills him for real. Brock enraged with Peter for taking pictures but not helping Gwen. MJ gets fed up and breaks up with Brock. End with Symbiote latching onto Peter.

4: Peter grieving over Gwen, May is sick, Harry still in therapy, grades failing. MJ and Peter hang out more. Symbiote helps Peter defeat sinister 6 (led by Ock), a battle with all previously defeated second tier/major villains, except Lizard (awesome!) Evil Peter. He gets rid of it. Brock is angry with Peter for not helping Gwen and at MJ for leaving him. Becomes Venom. Big battle. Pete frees Brock. Brock is left insane without the Symbiote. Black Cat makes move on Pete. Peter has mixed feelings over her and MJ. Peter disposes the Symbiote. Introduce Cletus Kasady.

5: Defeat second tier villain (Electro). MJ and Peter getting closer. May is doing better. Harry recovers, but learns the truth. Carries on fathers work, becomes Hobgoblin. Tries to recreate the death of Gwen with MJ, but Peter vows not to let the same thing happen to MJ. Defeats Harry - he dead. MJ knows Peter's identity now. Black Cat watches them. She makes her goodbyes to Spidey and leaves the scene for good. Symbiote is disturbed and latches onto Kasady.

6: Defeat second tier villain (Mysterio). Epic battle with Carnage! Peter barely wins with his life intact. MJ helps with the final blow! (Yeah! No more of this sissy "save me" crap!) End with Peter and MJ marriage. Ending eludes with Spidey still doing his thing. All is happy. The End.

Leave out Kraven altogether. I never liked him. Kinda annoying. With a little more thought I'd make something more involved, but this setup would make me a happy camper. Doesn't mean it will happen this way, though. I highly doubt it would, but we'll see.

Hmmm. So these chicks have no idea if they are going to be auditioning for the role of Gwen, the only other female character I can think of to cast is Betty Brant for the first adventure, if they are to get the story right this time around. I believe that Mary Jane does not get introduced to Parker until he is already in a steady relationship with Gwen. When I read that Gwen Stacy was going to be the love interest / lead female, my heart skipped a beat. She is rightly the first love interest, however the first adventure ends in tragedy. To make amends for the Raimi franchise, Sony needs to stick to canon here, and that means college = Gwen Stacy = first girlfriend = villain knows identity = Gwen's tragic end. Sorry, but even if they are using the Ultimate series as inspiration, this is still the actual story. Now if they make up a whole bunch of sh*t like the last franchise, this reboot series has no hope.

@ZanyZap, they probably will rush. And do a half-assed job in the process. But I'll still hope for the best.

Don't worry about Mary Jane right now. Since Gwen is being anointed the love interest, MJ is not necessary for the moment.

Nothing against Emma Roberts she is a beautiful and talented young actress but she is not Mary Jane. Mary Jane is suppose to be the hot young voluptuous super-model\actress. Emma Roberts seem more like the Gwen Stacy type girl next door like Kirsten Dunst(well 100 times better than Kirsten Dunst). When I think of Mary Jane I think of Scarlett Johannson in Iron Man. She looked just like what I envisioned Mary Jane to be with her hair dyed red and the big breast lol
