With Sony Pictures Entertainment now in production in New York on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, slated for release on May 2, 2014, the studio is planting its flag on two future release dates for one of the most successful franchises in studio history, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures. The next two films in the story of Peter Parker (The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4) will be released on June 10, 2016, and on May 4, 2018, respectively.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake had this to say.

"Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we're thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years."

The next question is: Who will be the villains of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4. With Electro, Rhino, and the Green Goblin appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, are we seeing the ground work laid for the first on-screen appearance of the Sinister 6?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers. The executive producers are E. Bennett Walsh, Stan Lee, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci.

The Amazing Spider-Man took in over $750 million at the worldwide box office last year.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 comes to theaters in 2018. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

The Amazing Spider-Man 4 is in development .

@Kill-Bill@Kill-Bill I know he is never a big villain in comics I just always liked him

@lazerdude@Erikajinx Shocker was never a big villain in the comics, so I don't think they will use him as a main villain. He can be a henchman of another villain or they can transform the Burglar in him

@writer220 YES! God hat would be crazy good. I can just see Garfield's Spiderman flipping around making fun of Wolverine as he tries to slash at him. I was watching that new-ish Ultimate Spiderman the other day, and I couldn't help but laugh when Peter and Logan's personalities got switched, and Peter coukdnt controll Logan's claws lmao @Kill-Bill Sir, that is an amazing setup. I would definitely pay to see that :)

@ejk1 I think GG will show up in the last minutes, he will kill Gwen. It ends in a cliffhanger and he is the main villain in 3 with maybe Doc Ock as a secondant villain. Venom can be in 4 with Scorpion. Then Carnage in 5 or in a Venom spin-off. Then 6 with the Sinister Six to end the series

When is Wolverine and Spidey going to be mixed in one film? That I would pay to see.

I better watch the first film half a million times, I still find it hard to accept anything from Webb. I'll eventually buy this new one when it comes out and watch it as much as I can.
Eight to nine films would be good for this one hero.
Look at Wolverine, four X-men films, one lousy one, and the up coming Wolverine, Singers new film.

Glad to hear. I love me some spidey for sure. I do enjoy Sam Raimi's trilogy...yes even 3. Lets face it, take out dancing Peter Parker and you got a really good summer movie. No it couldnt match up to the first 2, but still cool stuff in it. I also enjoyed TASM alot and I thought the score was phenomenal. I'm just excited to see the future of this franchise and what we'll get.

This crap gets a 4th film and the first trilogy didn't? Unbelievable.

Sony would do another reboot of a reboot before they'd lose the rights to Spider-Man

When did they confirm Goblin was in ASM 2?

As for who will be in 3 and 4, I think Goblin should kill Gwen in 3, follow it with Venom in 4. This way, you can save Carnage and Doc Ock for 5 and 6.

  21. Agent-Cooper

@felipe-11 Peter is an adult in a large portion of the comics anyway, so it doesn't really matter. And like you said, Andrew can definitely pull of playing a bit younger than his age if necessary.

Good to know. I really liked what they did with the ASM 1. And also like that each movie is two years apart. Can't wait.

  23. Replicant

@ghostman yeah, which works fine for me. He's one of those actors who will look young for quite a while, like Leo DiCaprio did (he doesn't now, but you get the picture). So he'll still be fine to play a college student.

@felipe-11 Andrew Garfield will be 30 this year. If you do the math, by the time the fourth film comes out, he will be 35 years old.

Required to make 1 movie every 5 years but opt to make 4 in 8 years? This is what's called a power move kids, it shows faith and means they have a story they're confident with (Sinister Six) mapped out.

Kudos to Sony, this is great news
