‘Smallville’’s Tom Welling to Be Superman in ‘Justice League’?

New rumors abound about the upcoming superhero flick.

Movie Picture
IESB.net is reporting more rumors from the Justice League of America front.

The first, posted last Friday, hints that Smallville's very own Superman, actor Tom Welling, may very well be in the running to play Superman in the Justice League film. Obviosuly this is something Smallville fans have been dreaming of for years. IESB.net tried to get to the bottom of things...

We contacted Tom Welling's reps over at CAA and were quickly (and I mean quickly!) transferred to the PR department of theatrical releases for comment, we are waiting on an official comment at this time.

But what about the shooting schedule of Smallville that is supposed to go through around April you ask? Word is, the production of Smallville in Vancouver is even willing to work around whatever Welling's schedule may be in order for their small screen superhero to make the jump to theaters. Or my thought is, maybe they will continue and completely turn the show over to the new girl in town, Kara, aka Supergirl.

We have contacted the Smallville production office and are awaiting a call back. We also contacted Warner Bros. corporate communications who handles projects in development. When we asked if they would give us a comment on George Miller (the soon to be announced director) or Tom Welling the answer we got was, "No."

We've got this locked in from multiple sources, again, Chinese water torture goes a LONG WAY! But that's the word!

Justice League Part 1 comes to theaters November 11th, 2017 and stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

Gonna have to catch up on this show. Since Lex and Clark were crushed in the Season 7 finale, the show ended for me.

@Lane, I am not saying it was NEVER considered in the past. I was saying with Nolan and Snyder in charge, and with a REBOOT (which was only announced this year, whereas this article is from '07), that he really shouldn't be cast in the film. Just because you can understand that the show and the upcoming film are different doesn't mean the audience necessarily will. in fact a few friends heard of some rumors surrounding the reboot and Welling and thought it would continue where Smallville would leave off. See?

I agree. There hasn't been one bad episode this year yet. :)

Let's just hope it stays that way! I really need the word EPIC to mean something this year! :D

Season 10 has been extremely well done. Hate to see it go really, this film would be an excellent way to take things to the big screen!

I love this. This article is for all those a$$holes who thought and still think that Tom Welling shouldn't and "will never be" in a Superman movie (or in this case, one with him in it). While it doesn't confirm that any deals were ever made, this is UNDENIABLE PROOF that Tom had once been considered for the role (and once before for Superman Returns, as well). THIS ALMOST HAPPENED. Believe it, or not. I'm sad George Miller left the project. The director of the classic fantasy film "The Neverending Story" and the "Mad Max" series. He would've been a perfect "independent" fit for this movie. I hope to see another director like him on the project in the future. We need more directors like this who actually care about the story and characters over ones who the studio picks cuz they're only interested in the $$$$$. Eff you Hollywood.

ADRIANA LIMA; as wonder woman? well I can't say she wouldn't fit the role. ( droooools ) but can she act?

hey joker, cant say i agree with your choice for lantern. although michael jai white has the build and looks to be him, the last thing i vaguely remember him being in and have tried to forget was spawn. I am only going off of that one role, but i thought he gave a terrible performance, and it was laughable, the way he acted in it... (to give him credit though i thought everyone excluding leguizamo were just awful) but with good acting coaches and maybe a bit of the wacky tobacky to loosen him up a bit, then maybe he could pull it off.

I have never watched an episode of Smallville ever!!!!! Wait I watched one, it was the one with the Vampire Sorority. LOL!!!!!

Has anyone been confirmed for the movie or are they still in the cast development at each character. Is Justice League of America the official title.

    7 years agoby @xjws79Flag

  18. XJWS79

I'll give him a chance on the big screen watched every season of Smallville. Just give us a Justice League movie we will all remember and not for being a piece of sh*t but a blockbuster. I like your idea for Green Lantern Joker, Common was the only other guy I've heard for this role.

  19. Dkrypton

Tom welling will be perfect for this film...Some of u critics just need to give the guy a chance...He has more experience with this character than anyone they can put on screen...He has more than 6 years of acting as young superman...Like 'Thylantis' commented, the guy has the physique for the role...If he is not in the movie it will most likly experience the faith of Superman Return...I really don't think any other actor other than Tom Welling will do justice to that role as Superman!!!

  20. Thylantis

Good god, doesn't fit? Would kill the movie?. Is this the tripe I am hearing. Get a grip on your homestyles boyos.. here is the deal. According to the comic's, Super dude was tall. Like well over six feet tall. Well built aka broad shoulders barreled chest, with dark or black hair and blue eyes. Blue eyes, do you get that, or no wait, contacts are good for you I guess. Sheese.. and as far as carrying the movie. Well duh, how many YEARS now has Smallville being going on. He even has the dimple in his chin and squared jaw, naturally guys, no implants or make up .. and that's just his looks. Give it up for Tom.. he is hotter then any Routh, Able to carry a silly ill thought out T.V. show for years, I say Tom Welling Is Superman. In a movie he would rock!

agreed with the choice of louis lane. very terrible choice. but what you guys think about the possibility of Michael Jai White as the green lantern

those that say welling would mess up this film are Morons Welling would make a GREAT Superman I was disapointed when he didn't take the superman role in Superman returns he would've done better then Routh while the mopvie was good it would have done much better with Welling

    Nuff said.

  28. Frenzy2001

I think it would be a good idea. As good as Reeve was, he didn't look the part, and Routh couldn't act his way out of a wet paperbag (he had like 10 lines). While I don't think Tom is the greatest actor, I do think he would fit the part and perform it well. After all there will be other heros to share screen time with that could help to distrct the nay-sayers from Tom.

  29. justinishulk

i like Tom Welling but he does not fit in SUPERMAN AT ALL!!! better to find somebody looks like Routh or Reeve!
