Producer Jason Blum is lining up a sequel to last year's hit horror-thriller Sinister through his Blumhouse Productions company.

Sinister co-writers Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will write the screenplay, although Derrickson will not return as the director. Blumhouse is reportedly meeting with new filmmakers to tackle the follow-up. It makes sense that Scott Derrickson will not direct, since he and C. Robert Cargill are working on the video game adaptation Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Ethan Hawke starred in the original Sinister as a true crime author who moved into the same house where a family was brutally murdered. He discovers that an evil presence lurks within his new abode, and that his family is in serious danger. Sinister grossed more than $77 million worldwide from just a $3 million budget.

Sinister was released October 12th, 2012 and stars Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, Fred Dalton Thompson, James Ransone, Michael Hall D'Addario, Clare Foley ll, Rob Riley, Tavis Smiley. The film is directed by Scott Derrickson.

@bawnian-dexeus -- I was about to mention Redbox, but we all know how that one would work out. Ah, I see.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Haha! Well, I missed the first one in theaters so I can't really express a concrete opinion. Also, its kind of my neutral response

Not sure this need a sequel but the first film was good, like the guy said not perfect but creepy. Mama is the best horror flick in the past two years or even more

Just watched it this weekend. Was it perfect, no. Was it creepy? Yes. I'm all for a sequel. Horror movies don't have to be Shakespeare, just keep them creepy and scary.

Sinister was the best Horror film that i have seen in years. With the same writers, maybe this could be good but i have that feeling that this is just a petty cash grab.

i'd say if they do a sequel involve a new family and change the story up a bit, don't do a carbon copy of the original

Bad idea I think. But sounds possibly has potential if the same writers are attached.

Stupid. Protest this kind of movies I bored with them. I t could be scary but nothing visual everyone easily could scare you don't pay for this movies.

@corey -- It was a good (horror) movie until the disastrous ending took place; went from a 7/10 to a 6/10 in 15 minutes, or so.

Actually Ethan lied to the InnerSpace crew about not being in a horror film before. He did play a vampire.

I haven't seen the first yet, I guess I have to now.

But I'd be crazy to think something great would be a one time deal. I knew a follow-up would be announced as soon as I saw it.

Sinister is one of the best horror films in a long time. Every thing about it was great besides it's ending. The last thing I want is for a successful horror movie (something rare nowadays) to be destroyed by becoming a Saw/Paranormal Activity type franchise.

Hollywood sequels/remakes: Because getting things (partially) right the first time isn't enough.
