With two shows currently on the air, American Horror Story and Glee, and a new feature film entitled The Normal Heart in pre-production, Ryan Murphy is easily one of the busiest men in showbiz. Earlier today, I attended a Q&A session where Ryan Murphy revealed yet another project on his plate, a remake of the obscure 1976 horror film The Town That Dreaded Sundown. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, who directed the American Horror Story: Asylum season finale "Madness Ends", is in negotiations to direct. Here's what Ryan Murphy had to say about the project.

"There's no deal done, we're just working on it. I'm friends with Jason Blum, who is one of the producers on The Normal Heart movie that I'm doing, and he is also the brilliant mastermind behind the Paranormal Activity series. Jason has a very great idea to do horror movies for a price, and I think that's right. He said to me, 'If there's ever anything that you want to do, please come to me.' The movie that I was most freaked out by as a child was this movie that no one ever saw called The Town That Dreaded Sundown, which is based on the Texarkana things. I was just starting to babysit my brother, and the ads for that would come on and I would get freaked out. I went with him with this, and MGM was gracious enough to do it with him, so we're doing a modern-day version, remake, weird, meta thing with that. He (Alfonso Gomez-Rejon) is in negotiations to direct that, so hopefully we'll shoot that in the spring, before we go back and do American Horror Story."

It isn't known if Ryan Murphy is also writing the script for The Town That Dreaded Sundown remake, or if they have another writer in place. The original film, loosely based on a true story, follows a Texas Ranger (Ben Johnson) trying to hunt down a serial killer in Texarkana, Arkansas.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown was released December 24th, 1976 and stars Ben Johnson, Andrew Prine, Dawn Wells, Jimmy Clem, Charles B. Pierce, Cindy Butler, Earl E. Smith, Steve Lyons. The film is directed by Charles B. Pierce.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown was released October 16th, 2014 and stars Addison Timlin, Denis O'Hare, Gary Cole, Spencer Treat Clark, Edward Herrmann, Veronica Cartwright, Ed Lauter, Wes Chatham. The film is directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.

@moviemaniac66 I wouldn't say that. I've only seen parts, but from what I remember, it seemed pretty outdated.

@thedude-abides - Why? Was it a bad film the first time around?

This is one situation where I wouldn't mind a reboot.
