"Like maybe be an animal doctor. Why not me? I like seals and shit."
I did not like the first Clerks much at all. So why would I get Clerks 2 if I didn't even like the first? For many reasons. It was further down in Smith's career, and I thought that maybe by the time he did this film, he'd be better, because I love more of his recent stuff. Then also, this one has Rosario Dawson, and it's in color. So, I rented it, watched it one night, and liked it! I actually laughed a lot, unlike the first, where I didn't laugh at all.
I liked this one a lot more, because it had more story to work with. In the first, there was next to no story. This one has a few different things going on. The main guy, Dante, is quitting, and moving far away, leaving all his friends behind. So, there's that, and also they're working at a new place, because the Quick Stop burnt down. It doesn't have one main plot like your average movie, more just little sub-plots that carry you through an hour and a half with the often dirty, but clever and entertaining dialogue.
The acting is better than you might think. Pretty much everyone does great. Dante's fiance has a few scenes where she could do better, but everyone else does great! Brian O'Halloran returns as Dante, and Jeff Anderson returns as Randal. Both work great together, and are extremely funny when they're suppose to be, and serious when they need to be. Rosario Dawson also fits into the film quite well, as the boss of their new job at a fast food joint. She's very pretty, and very funny. Kevin Smith not only directed the film, but of course, he plays Silent Bob, who with Jay (played by Jason Mewes) sell drugs outside the fast food resteraunt. The scenes with them are probably the funniest parts in the film. Silent Bob with his goofy facial expressions, and Jay with his dance moves, and love for The Silence of the Lambs. All actors work great together, and it is obvious they all get along on real life as well.
Kevin Smith wrote, and directed this, as he always does. His films seem to have excessive amounts of crude dialogue. Normally, I wouldn't like that, but something about his directing can make most of that crude humor hilarious, or at least, just funny. I have high respect for him because he writes all his work, and gives us funny, fresh humor.
You might be surprised by the visuals of the film. I actually thought it was a very visually entertaining film. Sure, it's just a fast food joint, but it has very nice, vibrant colors to it (unlike the first). Also, Rosario Dawson ;)
Best sequel in the world. Know why? Because very rarely, if ever, do I not like the first of a series, but like it's sequel. I even bought this one... not the first. Maybe I'll rent the first again... But not for a while.
No spell check.
