Ya know, as i started hearing bits and pieces of this movie, the more and more i was getting stoked for it. i had extrememly high hopes for this flick and you know what? it did just that. it pulled through tremendously. the story is rather unique and the acting is very well done.
Within the movie it contains massive amounts of humor[(racial)(obesity)(midgets)] it has some sob moments as well as some sweet action sequences.
The movie is about a character named ray(collin) and how him and kis partner ken, both hitmen, are in the belgium town of bruges where they await further instructions after a job gone wrong.
It is revealed rather early that the first job ray is on, he is to kill a priest while in a church. in which he is successful. but with all bullets flying he pegs an innocent youg boy, established in the movie younger than 6, in the head(which they show) he is tore up over this and cant get over it.
His partner bombards him with cliche notes trying to cheer him up by saying its not his fault. whilst waiting further instructions, ken recieves a call from their employer harry. he informs ken that ray, although a good kid, cant be of much use after fucking up on his first job. killing a young boy no less. and is instructed to kill him. ken remorsefully agrees and as he heads to a park where ray sits on a bench, about to end his own life, ken intervenes and stops him. he tells him that he was told to take rays life and that he couldnt do it. that ray had to deal with the pain and make up for it by living on and maybe saving the life of another child that may come along.
Ken tells ray to get on a train and leave going anywhere he can to start over. after doing so, ken calls harry personally and tells him he let ray go and that if harry needs to come and kill him for disobeying orders then he can do so. he tells harry his address and accepts what he assumes is his fate.
Harry immediately arrives in bruges and attempts to locate ken. ray, being on the train, is arrested after beating up a canadian couple for shooting their mouths off the night prior, and is returned in bruges. he gets out and goes on a date with a girl he met several nights before to pass the time. harry meets up with ken and they talk about the situation. as harry is about to kill ken he withdraws and shoots him in the leg because he knows ken did the right thing. after this moment harry is informed that ray is at a local pub right around the corner.
He runs after ray and they pursue eachother several times with ray narrowly escaping. at the last moment when ray seems to have gotten away for good he is shot by harry from what seemed to be in impossible distance at least a football field in length.
Barely able to move, ray slowly manages to find his way to a movie set still pursued by harry. harry now being able to hold out his gun in plain sight seeing as he is on the set for a movie, and no one being any the wiser to which they mustve believed was a stage prop. ray ends up getting shot several more times by harry only to have one of the bullets pierce thru his body and hitting a midget removig is entire head. harry, believing the midget had been a small boy, takes his own life to pay for what he has just done.
Ray is then taken away on a stretcher where he narrates saying that he hopes he doesnt die because bruges is such a shit hole and that if he were to die he would spend eternity in hell believing that bruge and hell are one in the same. it isnt revealed to what happens to ray as we see him being driven away in an ambulance with the credits slowly following. but from what he says we as the audience assume that he makes it. but is never revealed to us
This movie is so bad ass i can hardly contain myself. it has earned its way into my top 5 movies and will remain there until something better can take its place. which isnt likely because hollywood sucks dick and we see nothing good anymore. so that being said it is a pleasure knowing that someone out there can still manage to push thru with an awesome movie such as this. go see it, you will laugh, cry feel happy, feel sad and just plain shit your pants. 5 stars gato mi amor
