PROM NIGHT (2008)

"A disgrace to all slasher films!"

Ok, I was not at all thrilled about a remake of this 1980s classic, but like most remakes as of late I decided to give this one a fighting chance. I could not have made a bigger mistake in doing this. I can honestly say out of the movies I have watched as of late this is by far the worst. The opening of the film was one of the corniest opening segments of a horror movie. The killer is introduced and instantly revealed which for any slasher flick is a big mistake unless the killer of course is Michael, Jason, Freddy, or one of the other classic boogeymen. All we get is a Charles Manson look alike ex-teacher stalking a teenage girl. What's so scary about that? After seeing the direction this movie was going I though this movie would have better fit for a Lifetime original movie. We don't get any kind of mystery or intrigue to sell over this serial killer so there is no real sense of threat or fear.

Now, I'm not so cynical that I can't give credit where its do. I will acknowledge the fact that they attempted to create a different story from the original, but it still failed to bring that feeling over sleuth or what's going to happen next. There is just no depth to this film and not much more I can say about it. The acting was poor, the story was poor, and the writing was an abomination. Bottom line, this script should have never made it past a pitch.
