"If married life was as bad as the film with the same name, no one would ever make it to the altar!"

"Married Life" is a dull, boring film that aspires to be "Far From Heaven". With a cast that includes the luminous Patricia Clarkson and all around great actor, Chris Cooper, I was looking forward to seeing the film. As soon as the credits began, I knew it was going to be a bad movie. My instincts kicked in and they are rarely off target. The film is based on a pulp fiction novel from 1951 that the films' director found while on a pulp fiction kick one summer. The film takes place in 1949 and everything from the set design, costumes, make-up and story are just awful. Poor Rachel McAdams, a gorgeous gal, looks horrible in a platinum blonde wig (I hope) and bleeding red lipstick. Pierce Brosnan is just annoying. OK, back to the plot...Clarkson and Cooper are an unhappily married couple. Cooper is having an affair with McAdams and wants to leave his wife for her. He confides in Brosnan, who after meeting McAdams' character, decides he wants her for himself. Pretty soon, there's a murder plot, but the tone of the film is never defined. There are moments of light suspense and drama, then there are moments of dark humor. The director couldn't decide whether he was making a dark comedy, a suspenseful thriller or a melodrama. All in all, I would expect to see this on the Lifetime network, not a theatre marquee. Don't waste your time. Seriously.
