"Her Husband's Dead, And He's Taking the News Badly..."
THE CAST:
Famke Janssen, Ed Westwick and Bobby Cannavale are the main actors in 100 Feet. Each was very convincing and well cast in their perspective parts especially Famke Janssen.
DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND SPECIAL EFFECTS:
Photography and special effects are reflective of the low budget and feels like a made for television production sometimes, but overall the film is watchable and entertaining even though not impressively filmed.
Eric Red is a little known director who also penned this movie. He is known for small, low budget obscure movies such as Body Parts and Bad Moon.
THE GOOD:
100 Feet is a good film because it is simplistic and not over done. It has a decent story which is somewhat original. The movie had a good pace to it and actually made me jump at one point. It is not what I would consider a scary horror but it is a taunt thriller which keeps your interest. I am surprised I had never heard of it and bought it on a whim since I am a fan of the genre. It probably was not advertised very much because of budgetary constraints, but deserved a little more than what it received.
THE BAD:
The special effects are the first thing that comes to mind when I think of what would improved this movie. I realized before watching this film that it was low budget, but even given that I thought it still could have been done better. The other thing that may bother some people is the sex scene between Janssen and her co-star Ed Westwick. I never gave it much thought until I read all the comments about the age difference, 23 years. My feeling on the matter is they are both adults and if it doesn't bother them then it does not bother me. The only thing that did bother me was the condition of the house, if she was so bored then why didn't she spend her time cleaning up and getting rid of the accumulated dirt that was very apparent throughout. Maybe they wanted it that way to add to the atmosphere and maybe it is just a pet peeve for me but I kept thinking about cleaning through the entire film.
THE STORY (may contain spoilers):
Marnie Watson killed her abusive police officer husband in self defense and now after a little more than seven years in prison she is being released but is under house arrest. As a condition of her release she must wear an electronic ankle monitor which allows her a 100-foot radius within the home. Not only must she contend with this but her husband's ex-partner is determined to see her back in prison for he does not believe she was abused. After getting settled, she realizes her husband may be dead but his ghost is still in the home and more volatile than ever. Will he be able to exact his revenge or will she be able to convince someone of what is going on before it is too late?
SPECIAL FEATURES: Unrated and Uncut DVD
In my opinion there are no special features, but they list Original 2.35 Cinemascope Presentation, 5.1 Surround Sound and Trailer as the features on the DVD.
REPLAY VALUE:
Below average replay for 100 Feet because it just does not have a strong enough storyline to be entertaining more than a couple of times.
BOTTOM LINE:
If you like ghost stories or Famke Janssen then I recommend this one highly. No it is not great but it does have a couple cool moments that make it worthwhile.
Thanks for reading.
