I admit it, I have watched the show! The television program has proved much more popular than ever anticipated by Disney, but with the growing monetary value of the stars and a number of other factors, the show eventually came to end. So what better way to bring closure than by launching a major film based on the TV show? As it turns out, it was a wise move. Disney was able to cash in on the success of the show by providing solid film to the already existing fan-base, and others. The film did fairly well at the box office, as well as critically. And I suspect that true "tween" fans will be grabbing copies of the DVD as well.
The film follows Lizzie and her friends, as they journey to Rome to celebrate their graduation under the watchful eye of future high school principal Miss Ungermeyer (Alex Borstein). On the way, Lizzie is mistaken for a rock star and adventures including friendship, fame, fortune, fashion and even a little bit of old fashioned romance ensue. This is certainly a movie aimed at a very specific target audience of tweenish girls, but it's fairly successful at hitting that mark. Hilary Duff makes for an adorable klutz, the scenery is wonderfully shot and this is overall a solid adventure with a wholesome message about it. Just don't expect any adults to sit through and enjoy it.
The DVD allows more glimpses into the film and into Hilary Duff's singing with features like "In the Recording Studio With Hilary," deleted scenes and a few music videos. Technically speaking, everything is solid in quality. The image is sharp and the audio track is filled with pop tunes and other lively sounds. Again though, this is was the "tweens" in the family.
If you need to grab something that will keep your daughter entertained, but don't expect to have to sit through this yourself, feel free to pick up THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE and sneak out the door. She'll enjoy it, and you'll enjoy some time out.
