"Where's Marty, When You Need Him?"
When I saw the first ad for this movie, I thought the heavens had parted! WOW DeNiro/Pacino....what could be better?
Elvis/John Wayne? maybe?
Needless to say my excitement level for this movie was very high. I bought my tickets, got my Cherry Coke and Popcorn, sat down, got through the movie trailers, excitement still at atomic levels!
After about 15mins into the movie my excitement level vanished and I was back to the real world.
Although its not a bad movie, its very predictable, the film editing is like chop shop central ( done to give film fast paced feel), the script was weak and the supporting cast was very "un supporting".
Not going to give the story line away here, like many have already done on MoiveWeb.com. This movie is certainly worth seeing if you are a fan of Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino. More than likely they will not be together in a movie again. Unless of course they do a remake of Grumpy Old Men? which this movie felt like at times (without Ann Margret)
I cannot imagine why? the backers of this film did not insist on Martin Scorsese? as the director. Who better than Marty (asthma included) could have directed these two screen giants better? Someone thought Jon Avnet? Hello? Avnet already screwed up 88 Mins, why this movie?
At any rate, its a fair cop movie with Large Star Appeal... The basic idea of the movie is the DeNiro and Pacino are on the trail of a serial killer who is killing all the bad guys and doing the police a favor? (think Magnum Force) Maybe Clint should have directed this movie...(not a bad idea)
The Movie did remind me very much of Magnum Force. There is even a reference to Dirty Harry in the movie. Its finally decided in the movie that it must be a cop doing all the killing and so goes the hunt. For me the only killing going on was Avnet killing the opportunity of a life time to deliver a great movie. (sorry very disappointed)
Both actors are far more capable than the director and that I beleive is the core problem with this movie.
